One of the things former first lady Michelle Obama is known for is the phrase “When they go low, we go high.” It’s a phrase that was recently altered by former Attorney General under Barack Obama, Eric Holder, and Michelle is not in agreement.

On Wednesday, Holder was seen on video talking about how the Democrats should proceed in the future. Locking on to the same vibe that Hillary Clinton espoused earlier this week when she called for Democrats to reject civility with Republicans, Holder brought up Michelle’s famous phrase and decided to alter it.

“Michelle [Obama] always says, “When they go low, we go high,” Holder said. “No. When they go low, we kick them,” said Holder to applause.

Michelle was on NBC’s Today show helping to celebrate the “International Day of the Girl” when Holder’s phrase, as well as Clinton’s comments, were brought up to her. The former first lady rejected them outright.

“Fear is not a proper motivator,” said Michelle. “Hope wins out. “If you think about how you want your kids to be raised; how you want to think about life and their opportunities, do you want them afraid of their neighbors? Do you want them angry? Do you want them vengeful?”

“Which motto do you want them to live by?” Michelle asked.

This makes Michelle one of just three Democrats that have denounced calls for incivility, including Beto O’Rourke and Heidi Heitkamp, both of whom are Democrats in red states.
