Apparently sick of the games being played around the already sketchy sexual assault claims being made against Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh, Sen. Chuck Grassley is giving the accuser, Christine Blasey Ford, an ultimatum.
Show up, or no hearing.
As Streiff covered earlier, Ford may be a no-show to any hearings put on by the committee. According to Fox News, Grassley made this declaration on Hugh Hewitt’s program early Tuesday:
Grassley, R-Iowa, scheduled a hearing for Monday for Kavanaugh and accuser Christine Blasey Ford to answer questions from senators about the allegation. But Grassley said during a Tuesday radio interview that his office has reached out several times to Ford and her attorneys to discuss her allegation, but has heard nothing back.
“We have reached out to her in the last 36 hours three or four times by email and we have not heard from them, and it kind of raises the question, do they want to come to the public hearing or not?” Grassley said on The Hugh Hewitt Show.
Asked whether there would be a hearing if Ford did not agree to appear, Grassley suggested he couldn’t see a reason to hold one.
“What would be the purpose of the hearing if Dr. Ford doesn’t want to respond?” Grassley said.
Ford has been aloof in terms of showing up for the investigation and is staying that way with the help of Democrats no less. Sen. Dianne Feinstein is refusing to help the investigation along according to Grassley, who, along with Kavanaugh, has rolled out the red carpet for all parties concerned to get down to the bottom of things.
Democrats have also refused to participate in the phone call with Kavanaugh that would allow for further questioning about the allegations.
Regardless of the attempts to push forward by Republicans, however, it would appear that Democrats are doing everything possible in order to delay any kind of hearing, which, upon completion, would move everything forward to a confirmation vote. The fact that Feinstein and the Democrats have introduced this allegation at the 11th hour before the confirmation vote despite sitting on this information for weeks speaks volumes in itself about the true intent of this scandal.
