It would appear that Democrats, the party accusing Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh of having committed sexual assault against a woman at 17, have no intention of actually questioning the accused further.
According to Fox News’s Peter Doocy, a phone call will take place later this afternoon between Kavanaugh and the Senate Judiciary Committee to ask more questions about the allegations, however, Democrats have reportedly refused participation in the process.
NEW: Brett Kavanaugh will speak at 5:30pm to judiciary committee staffers with new questions about allegations of sexual misconduct, per a source familiar with the confirmation process.
none of the democratic members of the committee plan to participate, per statement

According to Fox News reporter Chad Pergram, the reason Democrats have backed out is due to the fact that they find the staff-only phone call “unacceptable,” adding that the call “is in complete violation of how this committee has worked.”
Judiciary Cmte Dems: In view of the enormity/seriousness of these allegations, a staff-only phone call behind closed doors is unacceptable & Dem staff will not participate. This isn’t how things should be done and is in complete violation of how this committee has worked

This refusal to participate is in line with Democrats seeming to hold up proceedings in regards to the investigation. According to Sen. Chuck Grassley, Sen. Dianne Feinstein has also refused to help in the investigation despite being the Democrat that raised this issue in the first place so close to Kavanaugh’s confirmation vote.
It appears that this may be another tactic to delay solving the allegation issues with the larger goal of delaying the vote.
