The Left Is Moving the Goalposts They Used on Roseanne as Fast as Possible for Samantha Bee

If the left had a motto, it would be “it’s okay if we do it.”

This is best seen in the social justice left who can be as racist, sexist, and bigoted as it pleases, but will collapse into screaming spasms the moment it gets even a whiff of the same from the right, whether the right was actually bigoted, sexist, racist, or not.

This has been demonstrated in a very solid manner repeatedly over the years, but was recently reinforced when I watched a college-aged girl essentially tell YouTube’s Dave Rubin that she can straight up insult whoever she wants without consequence because it’s her right to, but that insults from the right lead to violence and so must not be allowed.

Now let’s take yet another example of how speech is too much when it comes from — supposedly — the right, and how it’s perfectly fine when it comes from the left.

Roseanne Barr sent out a tweet that compared former Obama AG Valerie Jarrett to a mix of the Muslim Brotherhood and Planet of the Apes. It’s a tweet that went too far, and no matter how you slice it, was racist. I’m still not sure that one tweet should have gotten her show canceled. Not for her sake, mind you, but for those who worked on the show. Roseanne offered an apology without much prompting, and aside from the avalanche of negativity that would have come her way from the people, that probably should have been that.

But that’s not how our society works in the social media age. As Kira Davis wrote on the matter, today our society demands a kind of perfection unachievable at any time, and especially in today’s day and age when everything you say and do can be transmitted to the world at large.

But that perfection seems to only apply to the right, at least most of the time. While the left does tend to run afoul of the leftist’s hierarchy of victimhood — see the recent troubles Joy Ann Reid is going through — it’s undeniable that the right is held to a different standard than the left.

Take the recent comments from TBS comedy news show host Samantha Bee, who I’m told is a comedienne.

“You know, Ivanka, that’s a beautiful photo of you and your child, but let me just say, one mother to another, do something about your dad’s immigration practices you feckless cunt!” said Bee to massive cheers and applause.

“He listens to you,” she continued. “Put on something tight and low-cut and tell your father to fucking stop it.”

And the crowd went mild.

The left’s insatiable outrage was suddenly nowhere to be found in the face of Bee’s on-air verbal assault of Ivanka Trump who literally just posted a picture of her and her child having a tender moment. There was no outrage from feminists, who usually go berserk over attacks against women. The mainstream press, who would have had this dominating the tops of their pages like it did for Roseanne, seem to have missed Bee’s horrid rant that suggested Ivanka engage in incest.

This was marked by several Twitter users, who noticed the deafening silence from the left. Not only that, if they weren’t silent, they left was somehow managing to excuse it because it was somehow not as bad as Roseanne’s tweet.

The left has picked up the goal posts, loaded them into the truck, and are now screaming down the freeway as fast as they possibly can in order to make the point made by the right count for nothing.

Rest assured, I’m not calling for Bee’s show to be canceled. Again, I’m not even sure Roseanne’s should have. However, Bee should have to face the same public backlash from both sides, just as Roseanne did.

Instead, we’re watching as the left essentially reiterates their unofficial motto of “it’s okay when we do it” to a great degree. Bee can say whatever vile thing she wants, however, if someone like Roseanne or Laura Ingraham say anything remotely offensive, then there must be pitchforks, torches, and loss of livelihoods.

There cannot be two separate sets of rules depending on which political party you subscribe to. Either what Bee said was out of bounds, or it’s not. Either racism is bad and inexcusable, or it’s not. Either sexism is wrong, or it’s not.

The left has to choose, and follow the rules society sets, or social taboos we have mean absolutely nothing.
