Maryland School Shooter Was Shot and Killed by the School Resource Officer

The shooting that occurred at Great Mills High School in Maryland that critically injured two students was halted before the shooter could do further harm after he was gunned down by School Resource Officer (SRO) Blaine Gaskill.

According to the Washington Post, the shooter was gunned down by the officer on scene the moment he was notified of the shooter’s presence by students and staff:

The gunman who was a student at the school 70 miles south of Washington, D.C. opened fire in a hallway shortly before classes began around 8 a.m., striking a female and male student, said Sheriff Timothy K. Cameron.

Students and staff quickly notified an armed school resource officer, who pursued the shooter and fired a single shot at him, Cameron said at a press conference around 11:30 a.m. The shooter fired back.

The shooter and the two students were rushed to local hospitals in critical condition. The shooter, who was not identified, was pronounced dead at 10:41 a.m., Cameron said.

He engaged the shooter within one minute of the attack beginning, and was not injured in the exchange of gunfire.

Blaine Gaskill saved lives. It’s impossible to know how many, but he did what the Broward Sheriff’s deputies wouldn’t. He engaged the shooter, he stopped the attack, and he saved the lives of at least two, and maybe many more kids.

This is how it security is supposed to work. When there is a threat, those charged with safety of others defend them against it. Because of that, we aren’t discussing another high casualty event. We aren’t mourning more lost children.

The St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Department has not released any information on the possible motive of the shooter. What they have found is that the shooter attended school 70 miles south of Washington, D.C.

According to the Alchohol, Tobacco, and Firearms Agency, they are also sending agents over to investigate the shooting.

We will know more soon enough. You’ll probably have to find out here at RedState. This story was given chill treatment on cable news because it didn’t fit the anti-gun narrative.
