The United Nations didn’t have much luck with a resolution that would have attempted to force Trump to rescind his declaration that Jerusalem was the capital of Israel.

On Monday, AP reported Monday that the United States vetoed the resolution within the United Nations Security Council calling for Trump’s declaration to be withdrawn.

The resolution was drafted by Egypt, who did not mention Trump or the U.S. in the resolution, but has been outwardly vocal about its disagreement with Trump’s decision.

The draft also stated, “that any decisions and actions which purport to have altered the character, status or demographic composition of the Holy City of Jerusalem have no legal effect, are null and void and must be rescinded in compliance with relevant resolutions of the Security Council.”

The draft also called on other countries not to partake in any diplomatic ventures with Israel.

However, this resolution is now dead thanks to a U.S. veto, but ambassador Nikki Haley assures everyone that regardless of the U.S.’s decision, a hand of peace is extended to both Israel and Palestinians.

“The United States has an undiminished commitment to helping bring about final status negotiations that will lead to lasting peace. Our hand remains extended to both parties.”
