Ben Sasse: RNC Backing Moore "Doesn't Make Any Sense"

Nebraska Senator Ben Sasse can’t get behind Alabama Republican candidate Roy Moore and doesn’t understand why any Republican would choose to do so either.

Moore is currently accused of having an inappropriate relationship with a minor.

According to The Hill, during an interview with reporters outside of a Senate Judiciary Committee hearing on Wednesday, Sasse expressed his disapproval of the RNC’s decision to back Moore.

“I started by criticizing the RNC for giving money to somebody that they explicitly admitted in the past that they believed these women in Alabama, and somehow now the RNC is giving money,” Sasse told reporters.

He added that “it doesn’t make any sense, if you believe the victims, you don’t give money to this guy.”

Sasse had on Tuesday publicly criticized Arizona Senator Jeff Flake’s donation to Moore’s opponent, Democratic candidate Doug Jones, calling it a “bad idea.” Sasse noted in a tweet that “it’s possible to be against BOTH partial birth abortion AND child molestation.”

Sasse reiterated his stance on Wednesday, saying that voters should push for better candidates during elections, and trashing both Republicans and Democrats.

“I think we have too much binary nonsense in our politics right now. It’s pretty obvious that the political parties stink,” Sasse added.
