If you needed any more evidence that the press harbors no characteristic that resembles shame, we have a creative review of the Graham Platner debacle. While the report is audacious enough with its “revelations,” the source of this “news” is even more amazing.
There was no shortage of ridicule and derision seen last year when Jake Tapper and Alex Thompson released their book about the Joe Biden term and the cover-up of his diminishing mental faculties. “Original Sin” was a retelling of the final Biden year and the way his cerebral foibles were not covered appropriately by the media. Much of that release concerned recasting how the press treated things, with heavy reliance on how the then-administration had duped the press and the public.

Well, Alex is back at it, as he has come out with a report on Platner, and he covers many of the details about the disturbing figure we have long known about. The hitch here is that Thompson is presenting things as if they are fresh news items, and more than that, he poses some as if these were obfuscated facts that the press had been powerless to glean.

Platner was a walking time bomb long before the rape allegation he denied this week.
The cracks in Platner's well-crafted image were evident from the beginning if Dems were willing to see them — especially progressiveshttps://t.co/f266QOOupY
There really is no need to click on Thompson’s article because, even if you are a casual reader of any of our Townhall sites, you know the specifics that he lays out. “Graham Platner was a walking time bomb long before the on-the-record rape allegation he denied this week,” Thompson says as an opener, as if this were a surprising detail. (Arguably, to Axios readers, these could be deemed a “surprise.”) He then goes on to bring up a number of objectionable facts about Platner — many, he says, were in play as far back as August of 2025.
Huh, you don’t say, Alex.
Or, as I should put it regarding the press complex of this country, you didn’t say. What we have with Platner’s case is a minor league version of the Biden storyline formula, a three-part exercise to aid a Democrat, but playing out in the hinterlands and on the coasts of Maine. This game plan involves underreporting uncomfortable facts, explaining away disqualifying details, and lashing out at those willing to actually report on the man accurately.
As one example, Thompson makes it sound like a novel discovery that Platner’s oyster farming was not exactly a lucrative enterprise as had been touted.
Platner and his team billed him as an oyster farmer — a title most of the media, including Axios at times, repeated without scrutiny.
His farming details were not a mystical fact; any reporter sporting more than apathy could have compiled those. Moreover, these facts were in fact brought to light months ago by the Washington Free Beacon, but being regarded as a distasteful right-of-center outlet meant the larger press body was free to disregard the accurate reports.
Also, while grappling with the Nazi connotations on his character (sporting a death camp tattoo over one’s heart for two decades could have that effect), the press was compliant and dropped the matter after glossing over the specifics.
When reports of his old Reddit posts, Nazi-linked tattoo and other scandalous details emerged, Platner often retreated to progressive media spaces such as "Pod Save America" and MS Now to explain himself.
Yet here is where the media are supremely exposed. Platner’s antisemitic and supremacist leanings were not confined to his past. While excuses were made about those positions being youthful indiscretions, the man was still displaying those tendencies – this year. As I covered here over two months ago, Platner did not have enough juice in his brainpan to realize he should keep away from any mention of a topic in that general region. His Totenkopf controversy percolated up last October, yet there was the galaxy brain Platner, sitting in on the podcast with noted antisemite Nate Cornacchia. Then he followed that up by boosting the words of noted Nazi sympathizer Stew Peters on his own social media account, causing his team to scramble and have that taken down.

But the press was content with all of that and remained content as the months rolled on and the man displayed his skeletons with a frequency that would shame a Spirit Halloween retail outlet. Even up to last month, when severe sexual assault allegations emerged, the approach by the press was that it did not count, since the predation was alleged by a noted conservative female.
Alex Thompson would be helped to be reminded of an anecdote he provided last year, exposing the press as lapdogs of the Democrats. Behold, as Alex was out selling his book, he detailed one interview he had with a White House staffer who told him they boldly put out false information about President Biden, and even they were amazed at how the press just repeated their lies, nearly verbatim.
This is possibly the most damning detail from the Tapper-Thompson book “Original Sin”:

One of the Biden players who admitted to their lying to protect Biden was amazed at how much the press was willing to spin their BS on behalf of the administration. pic.twitter.com/k58Oz7my3T
And we are supposed to wonder how Graham Platner was allowed to prosper to the point of having the standing governor walk away from her campaign as he wrested the party nomination? The media were completely on board. This is proven out by the swiftness of the Democrats' recoiling from Platner and the timing of Thompson’s “report” today.
While they are touting how “we hold our own accountable,” the laughability of this is that it only took dozens of examples for them to “take action.” The truth of the matter is that the only reason Platner is being pitched over the transom has nothing to do with ethics and morality; it is due entirely to the polling showing that the voters have heard enough.
That diminished public opinion now means journalists can be brave enough to actually report on the details of Der Oysterfuhrer, Graham Platner.
