The normally dervish-like media has been in something of a quiet spell recently. Things seem somewhat unfocused in the industry as the year winds down. [NOTE: Be on the lookout for our end-of-the-year awards recognizing the most imbalanced journalism of 2025.] They're still up to their usual tricks, though, and they've made various attempts at attack journalism and desperate lurches as the Epstein files were released, to unsettled reactions.
So with visions of sugar plums clouding their minds, the journalists have been rather flustered and looking inept while trying to sound forceful. So let's tug on the hip waders one last time in 2025 and wade through the swamp of news outlets.
THE CONTENDERS
USA Today – The Nation’s Newspaper attempted to resuscitate the “controversial” Appeal To Heaven flag flap, and failed spectacularly. They tried to have it both ways in a hit piece on Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent by making it sound corrupt that he sold his interest in soybean farming, but also that he did not divest in an appropriate timeframe. Meanwhile, the paper seemed to think people cared what Anna Wintour of Vogue Magazine thought of Trump’s style.
ABC News – In covering up for the Australian shooting at a Jewish celebration, they tried to say the motive was still unclear, even as the murderers were being connected to ISIS. Jon Karl pretended he never heard Joe Biden’s Red Lecture speech in Philadelphia and claimed he never heard a partisan national address like Trump delivered. David Muir white-knighted for Kathy Hochul by mentioning her Catholicism — as she passed her euthanasia bill.
CNN – As the stringent gun laws in Australia did nothing to prevent the mass Bondi Beach shooting event, the galaxy minds at CNN moaned that the U.S. has not adopted their failed gun policies. Ilhan Omar was the latest Democrat brought on to clear their name in a scandal, as she “clarified” comments that ICE had arrested her son. Abby Phillip brought on Ana Navarro to say that Trump was attacking Venezuelan boats to distract from his Rob Reiner post on Truth Social.
MS NOW – The network with the newly minted name shows that the same old MSNBC-quality of journalism is on display. On the shooting at Brown University, hostess Alex Witt blamed it on the rifles, when only handguns were used, and Seth Moulton called for a little bit of gun control, in the state with some of the toughest gun laws, for a shooting at a gun-free zone. Jen Psaki was upset at the seizing of a Venezuelan oil tanker… over oil sales sanctions Joe Biden put in place. Jennifer also tried to say Trump lied about the national average gas price, when in fact he had not made such a statement in his Wednesday speech. Mark Kelly was brought on “Morning Joe” to get yet ANOTHER interview about how he will not be silenced, and declare that drug boats should not be targeted as they only transport cocaine. The outlet posted a graph showing supposedly high ratings when it displayed that its current average audience is lower than the past eight years.
THE WINNER
MINNEAPOLIS STAR TRIBUNE
The paper that is supposed to cover local issues is intent on running defense over the fraud scandal being exposed.
After it claimed the fraud concerned “only” around $150 million, it has been shown that billions of dollars are involved.
After deflecting on the scandal and trying to cast President Trump as the villain, the paper tried to claim it had long been covering the scandal.
They tried to suggest there was some connection between a subsequent apprehension by ICE agents and the George Floyd incident.
