With the big off-year elections taking place on Tuesday, the 4th, there has been heightened interest in the press. Zohran Mamdani has taken the bulk of the coverage, and very little of that is critical. Or, even objective. He is receiving blanket coverage and almost exclusive praise, all while Andrew Cuomo is roundly overlooked, and few can even name who is running as the GOP candidate.
This is also sufficient for the press to avoid covering the mounting Arctic Frost scandal, as we learned that Jack Smith was issuing hundreds of subpoenas targeting over 400 people and entities regarding January 6. But see, the press has been accusing Trump of obsessive lawfare, and they love the January 6 scandal — so there is nothing to report!
Add to this the ongoing White House East Wing demolition, Trump's war on drugs, and a lavish party at Mar-A-Lago, and there was plenty for the press to get emotional over last week. So once again, time to tug on the hip waders and begin the slog through the past week of reporting, and see which outlet distinguished itself on this flawed media landscape.
THE CONTENDERS
The Bulwark – Tim Miller not only lent support to Zohran Mamdani but also excused his recent Communist commentary, suggesting that the candidate somehow “deprogrammed himself” from such talk. Not to be outdone, Bill Kristol showed off his “weakly standards,” as he enthusiastically endorsed Mamdani as well. And while New York is poised to make this election mistake, the site tried to suggest that Trump is the actual socialist.
CBS NEWS – Yawns were heard as news broke that John Dickerson was leaving the “Evening News” desk at the end of the year. His announcement seemed to be connected to the Bari Weiss melodrama, since she took over the news division. This was followed by the network laying off 1,000 people, including 100 from the news division. The DEI divisions were hardest hit. Jim Laporta covered the South Korea trip by Pete Hegseth and focused on his “No Beards” policy.
New York Times – The site ran cover for Zohran Mamdani’s bogus “traumatized aunt” story, and said GOP “pounced” in the process. The Editorial Board put out a list of 12 items allegedly showing Trump is edging us towards authoritarianism; they need to ignore how most of their examples took place as well under Biden, and we survived. To push a pro-Gaza narrative, we got an editorial stating a need to “rethink” the Jewish Holocaust.
MSNBC – Nicolle Wallace told the ultimate lie as she claimed no Democrats have called Trump “Hitler”; her own history of such is rather disqualifying. Lawrence O’Donnell went on an unhinged rant, raging about Scott Jennings and the supposed lies he tells on the air constantly. (Which lies? Nobody knows, as Larry detailed none.) Ken Dilanian looks at the Jack Smith Arctic Frost actions and declares Joe Biden was in no way involved.
THE WINNER
ABC NEWS
After weeks of shutdown narratives that illegals cannot get on SNAP benefits, the network detailed how tens of thousands will lose their benefits.
On Air Force One, they breathlessly reported how the president “refused” to dismiss the concept of remaining for a third term.
They commissioned a poll that allegedly finds most Americans oppose the building of a White House ballroom.
The network says President Trump was under fire for his Gatsby-themed party – all the complaints came from D.C. Democrats.
In a report on cattle ranchers seeing calves being taken down by vultures, the network came up with a cause – climate change, of course.
