We began last week with the lingering effects of the neutered “No Kings” protests, which must be considered to have been effective; we have no king in the country! As the week wore on there were a number of petty and bitter news items emerging, all done to throw more criticisms at the Trump administration.
Then of course it culminated in the bombing mission in Iran, which we all knew would deliver dysfunctional reporting and reactions. So let’s tug on the hip waders and begin trudging through the swamp that is our media complex and determine who took top (bottom) honors this week.
THE CONTENDERS
Rolling Stone – A few years ago there was an intended effort to bring journalism back to the famed music magazine, yet they still basically exist in the journalism minor leagues. The outlet was eager to learn what would be next for the No Kings protest. (HINT: New signs, new flags, and new chants, for whatever the new outrage will be declared.) We got a false report that the administration was cutting a suicide hotline for trans youths. They wailed over Texas possibly legalizing sawed-off shotguns because ONE was used in a crime seven years ago. We were told that Fox News declared war with Iran. They thought it was news that The Onion placed an ad in the NY Times.
The Atlantic – Jonathan Chait looked over the No Kings protest and declared it an “amazing success”. David Frum was positive on Saturday that Trump would never hit Iran, then stated it was a good idea but for the wrong reasons…or something. They stated the obvious while exploring how Democrats have a man problem.
CNN – Kristen Holmes complained the Iran mission was only shared with “Trump loyalists”; those would be the heads of the vital agencies involved. In reporting on the Washington Post being hacked by Chinese agents, the network held back from blaming the Chi-Coms. The network toured the bombed-out Iran news network, leading to much ridicule. Juliette Kayyem pushed the false story of ICE preparing to raid Dodger Stadium, then blamed DHS for not debunking the story soon enough to prevent her from looking bad. A new standard was created as they say now less than 10 percent of illegals have “serious criminal convictions,” since 100 percent of illegals have in fact committed a crime.
New York Times – In the most desperate opposition to Trump’s attack on Iran the paper basically explained that as the nation was compiling all of the elements for a nuke that in no way proved they wanted to build one. The paper saw a need to look at the Brad Lander arrest and declare that he had merely been “trying to escort a migrant out of the courthouse.” John Ismay was upset that Pete Hegseth praised “our boys” in the bombing, when there are female pilots involved.
Washington Post – Upset over the SCOTUS ruling upholding the Tennessee ban on trans surgeries on minors, they described it as “polarizing”, despite a strong majority of Americans supporting it. One of its reporters was broadcasting coordinates of successful Iran missile strikes on Israel on social media. The paper tried to claim there is a trend of “anti-immigration,” struggling with the “illegal” even as it touted Spain flourishing with legal immigration.
THE WINNER
THE BULWARK
They proudly were among the first outlets to host disgraced and dispatched senior ABC News reporter Terry Moran.
The very white Sam Stein tried to leverage the Los Angeles Dodgers into joining the anti-ICE protests, because 40 percent of their fans are Latino. When the false story of the team supposedly blocking ICE emerged, he noted their article to take credit.
Of course they opposed Trump bombing Iran without Congressional approval, even as they never opposed Biden bombing missions.
Tim Miller slammed Christians over deportations by relying on another fraudulent detainment news item.
The site speculates if we are in “Anne Frank Territory” regarding deportations.
There was a deep exploration into the pizza tracker metric as a measure of the Pentagon going to war. Later, there was a discussion that Defense might buy a huge amount of pizza to frighten an enemy.
They featured one of the most pressing issues in Congress these days – car headlights being too bright.
