Right now, Chris Kluwe is a media darling. Outlets are in a cycle of promoting the former NFL punter as he tours the news nets. Unaware of who Kluwe is? Not to worry, you are missing very little.
The former Minnesota Vikings kicker has become a darling for insipid reasons, but when it comes to the press these days, we are living in insipid times. Kluwe made news the past few days in the most direct way; he literally generated a news story in a shallow fashion. It has all the hallmarks of empty gesturing that accomplishes little, drawing attention to oneself as the press lavishes their attention in biased fashion.
It all begins in a city commission meeting held in Huntington Beach. Kluwe attended to speak to the city council in protest against the local library displaying a promotional plaque. On it, four words are listed, and this has sparked the outrage that brought the local resident Kluwe to the meeting.
A city commission approved the purchase and installation of a plaque at the library with stacked words: Magical, Alluring, Galvanizing, Adventurous — thus spelling MAGA, the polarizing slogan used by Trump and his supporters.
Kluwe came to a podium to express his opposition, which is fine. But then, in aggrandizing fashion, he then announced he would participate in peaceful disobedience, walking from the podium and laying down in front of the commissioners in a display of physical pouting.
WOW! Former Vikings punter Chris Kluwe called Donald Trump and MAGA a "Nazi movement" and was arrested and carried out of a city council meeting by police.

Kluwe’s words are nothing but a hollow echo of the same mantra we have been hearing from the press for over a year now: Trump is Hitler, MAGA is fascist, red hats equal swastikas – blather-claptrap-prattle, etc. Kluwe said nothing that hasn't been worn out long ago, tired bromides that no longer deliver any venom and carry nothing of actual consequence. These cliched accusations are so impotent that nobody is impressed or moved by these words any longer – with the exception being bookers on cable news networks.
As a result of this sophomoric display, Kluwe has been the darling in the news, while saying nothing at all of merit. But this stands in stark contrast to a news story that erupted last year, one involving another NFL kicker, one the press was openly hostile towards. Recall that Harrison Butker was a news item for weeks because of words he spoke, and while the outlets castigated him, they also mocked him over being just a kicker, and why would anyone listen to what he had to say?
THE PRESS LAST YEAR: “Harrison Butker needs to shut up on social issues, no one cares what an NFL kicker has to say!”

THE PRESS THIS YEAR: “Hey everyone! Here is a guy who is washed-up punter from over a
decade ago — you absolutely NEED to hear him call Trump a Nazi!!!” https://t.co/ZInVNhpchZ pic.twitter.com/MrVG5hmHyv
There are differences in these two examples, of course. Butker was not begging for his time in the media crosshairs. His speech was made at a private college commencement, intended for that crowd alone. The press dragged him into the public square and then at the same time demanded the public castigate his comments. They strove to ridicule the Kansas City Chiefs placekicker and make an example out of a man dedicated to his faith.
But now, after telling us there is no reason to regard Butker as a role model, they trot out this activist who is more than a decade removed from an unremarkable career and insist that his high school-level histrionics and retread agitprop that can be heard on any given show at MSNBC is somehow profound and worthy of contemplation. It is as lame as it is pathetic.
We are supposed to be moved by claims that Trump is Hitler and conservatives are fascists, all while most regard these charges as the end of the discussion because of the shallow nature of it all. It is content-free debating that inspires nothing more than people to turn away and seek valid discourse.
This is the state of our media and the leftists these days. They tell us to disregard those people of accomplishment and merit and then prop up has-been figures who deliver never-was infantile messaging. And still they cannot grasp why they are perpetually losing in the field of public opinion.
