4 people were arrested with an arsenal in a Denver area hotel in the downtown area during All-Star Game events.

Local police in Denver descended on the Maven Hotel, in downtown Denver, just down the street from Coors Field, the site of the 2021 Major League Baseball All-Star game, being held in two days. Local officials reported they confiscated numerous weapons and a large cache of ammunition while arresting three men and a woman in connection with the location.

Following a called-in tip from a room service employee, who spotted some of the weapons in the room, SWAT teams were sent to the eighth-floor room and found what they described as 16 long guns, at least 1,000 rounds of ammunition, and body armor. The room has a balcony that overlooks the downtown area, where numerous advanced activities and events are to be staged.

There are a number of fan-based options for people to enjoy, as well as the Home Run Derby, held tomorrow, ahead of Tuesday’s game, which had been moved from the city of Atlanta earlier this Spring. That controversial decision was made by League officials in response to Georgia passing new voting laws earlier this year.

Local Denver 7 News, which broke the story late last night, said the suspects, all of them in their 40s, were arrested on gun possession charges and/or being in possession of controlled substances with intent to distribute. All three of the men were charged with possession by previous offenders. The local station also detailed that one suspect had posted on social media that a recent divorce was inspiring him to, “go out in a big way.”

Law enforcement officials indicated this could have been a “Las Vegas-style shooting,” referencing the mass killing that took place in October 2017, when a gunman opened fire on an outdoor concert crowd, killing 58 people. The Maven Hotel is located just one block from Coors Field, with a balcony that has a clear sight view of the stadium.

It is not clear at this time what the specific plot was for these four individuals, but it seems rather apparent that a major violent event has been avoided.
