The Only Impeachment Bombshell is One Adam Schiff Planted on the 2020 Democrat Candidates

House Intelligence Committee Chairman Adam Schiff, D-Calif., responds to reporters as Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., calls a meeting with all the House Democrats, many wanting impeachment proceedings against President Donald Trump after his latest defiance of Congress by blocking his former White House lawyer from testifying yesterday, at the Capitol in Washington, Wednesday, May 22, 2019. Impeachment was thought to be an election year boon for the Dems, but make that ‘’Boom’’ as they are facing a disaster.

It was with no lack of amusement when people heard California Representative Mike Levin utter grave-sounding words ahead of the Adam Schiff kangaroo court/impeachment inquiry. ”This is a very serious and somber day for the country,’’ said the Golden State Congressman. His words echoed those of Speaker Nancy Pelosi, who has claimed they enter impeachment proceedings, “sadly, prayerfully, with a heavy heart.”

Looking at the possible disaster this is showing to be for Democrats, especially the Presidential candidates, their words take on a new meaning.

We are supposed to believe that the impeachment movement is not at all politically motivated. We need to accept that the party that entertained the idea to impeach the President this summer, for saying mean things to House members, actually hates the concept. We also have to take Mike Levin as being truthful when he says, ”None of us came to Washington to impeach a president’’ — despite the fact that he actually campaigned on the platform of going to D.C. in order to impeach the President.

Most everyone with a working knowledge of politics is aware this is a purely political ploy, with an eye on the 2020 general election. The Democrats have long wanted to hang the dirty mantle of ”Impeachment’’ on Donald Trump’s neck so they could campaign against him negatively. It is the best tactic they have in the face of a strong economy and low unemployment. Look how blithely the party shifted this summer to Ukrainian wrongdoing, once the Russian collusion effort that occupied the better part of 3 years managed to deliver an empty box.

All of a sudden an innocuous phone call few had been aware of became a national crisis, albeit one that has been difficult to illustrate. Adam Schiff believed he had enough to go with his rigged process but he is running into a number of obstacles. Public apathy is growing, as well as support in the polls for the impeachment is eroding. It was with revealing shallowness that the apolitical Democrats have changed their narrative in the past week or so from ‘’Quid Pro Quo’’ being the motivator to now declaring ‘’Bribery’’ is the impeachable offense. That term was polling stronger with focus groups, you understand.

Despite the supposed firmness of the charges Adam Schiff is facing a mounting problem, and it will likely direct him on the next course of action. The irony is his next decision is not just probably settling on censure as a lesser conclusion, but it may become his only course of action. The reason is a problem resulting from the very intention of this inquiry — the impending election. With voter support waning ahead of the primary season if Schiff were to extend the hearings into next year that would only harm Democrat favorability.

More of a challenge though is found with a shortened inquiry, one that leads to a massive problem for Democrats. Should the House vote for impeachment in an expedient fashion before New Years the process then shifts to the Senate, and there are three main issues that need to be acknowledged, none of which are at all favorable to the Democrats.

The first is the obvious one, and that is impeachment is dead on arrival in the Senate. Even if there were a few defections there is nowhere near the support needed in that chamber. So it would merely be a formality. Then again, maybe it would not be such a rote exercise, which brings up the next issue.

The second bit of bad news is that the GOP-run Senate can call its own set of witnesses and this would not only counter the Adam Shiff-rigged process in the House;  they could conceivably steer the inquiry in a direction the Dems do not want to consider. The political motivations behind the whistleblower complaint could be explored. Looking into the Biden aspects would not be locked off. They could even call in Schiff as a witness to explain his rampant contradictions during his inquiry. Some retributive fun could be had.

The last piece of bad news could, in fact, be the worst, and it is steeped in irony. The impeachment exercise has been looked into as an election windfall for the Democrats, but now that same election leads to a big problem. Should the Senate get passed the impeachment then Mitch McConnell would be opening the trial in late January – just as the Democrats are getting ready for the Iowa caucus, on Feb 3. This would completely undermine their electoral efforts.

With the exception of Joe Biden, most of the frontrunners in the Presidential race would see their campaigning suspended. Senate attendance is mandatory, which means Elizabeth Warren, Bernie Sanders, Kamala Harris, Cory Booker, and Amy Klobuchar would all be required to leave Iowa and sit in chambers in D.C. for the length of the Senate trial. This could also seriously impede their time for the runup to the New Hampshire primary, on February 11. Then, depending on the length of a Senate process, there is also concern over the Nevada caucus on Feb 22, and the South Carolina primary on the 29th.

So, well done, Adam Schiff. As a result of your completely non-political impeachment witch hunt intended to aid the Democrat candidates for the Presidency, they are very likely to see they are yanked away from their campaigns for an undetermined length of time during the crucial early contests. To do so for a Senate process that is already a foregone non-starter makes this an even wiser move on your part.

For all the talk in the press of bombshells that came out of the inquiry process, they have all been shown to be duds. It seems rather revealing that the only one that is detonating could be in the faces of the Democrats themselves.
