Two Minnesota state lawmakers were shot in their homes on Saturday morning by a man allegedly impersonating a police officer. Details are still thin, but the victims are State Rep. Melissa Hortman (D) and State Sen. John Hoffman (D).
An emergency alert was issued, and the attacker remains at large as of this writing.

The two shooting locations were about 8 miles away from each other in Champlin and Brooklyn Park, just north of Minneapolis.
Both Hoffman and Hortman are Democrats. Hortman is the former Speaker of the Minnesota House of Representatives.
The FBI is helping with the manhunt, two sources familiar with the matter told ABC News.
Just moments before this publication, it was announced that Hortman had died due to her wounds. Hoffman is reportedly in grave condition. The motive for the shootings is unknown, though Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz is calling them a politically motivated assassination.
For clarity, claims are going viral that both Hoffman and Hortman recently crossed party lines to repeal healthcare for illegal immigrants, with the suggestion that is the motive behind the shootings. That is not correct. Only Hortman voted for the repeal, with Hoffman opposing the legislation. As always, it is best to wait for more information before speculating why this happened.
Update: According to the NYT, President Trump has now released a statement on the shooting:
President Trump called the shooting “terrible” in a statement and said federal authorities would prosecute any perpetrator to the fullest extent of the law. “Such horrific violence will not be tolerated in the United States of America,” he said. “God Bless the great people of Minnesota, a truly great place!”
Update [1:10 p.m. EDT]: Here is the president's full statement, which he recently posted at Truth Social:
I have been briefed on the terrible shooting that took place in Minnesota, which appears to be a targeted attack against State Lawmakers. Our Attorney General, Pam Bondi, and the FBI, are investigating the situation, and they will be prosecuting anyone involved to the fullest extent of the law. Such horrific violence will not be tolerated in the United States of America. God Bless the great people of Minnesota, a truly great place!
This is a developing story.
