Revealed: Woke DEI Initiatives in Federally-Funded 'Head Start' Program Are Simply Unbelievable

When does the federal government become indistinguishable from parody? When "diversity, equity, and inclusion" is involved. A new report has revealed just how far down the rabbit hole the federally funded Head Start program has gone. What has been uncovered can only be described as unbelievable.

The report, written by Functional Government Initiative, dives deep into webinars and guidance put out by Head Start promoting "anti-racism" and "transgender ideology," among other left-wing hobby horses. Here are just a few of the highlights.

On August 6, 2020, Head Start hosted a webinar focused on “Engaging in Conversations About Racial and Ethnic Equity” to create “inclusive environments that invite and honor the diverse perspectives of staff and families.” “In this webinar, the National Center on Parent, Family, and Community Engagement focuses on racism and equity. Explore information about creating respectful, inclusive environments that invite and honor the diverse perspectives of staff and families in service of moving forward together. Review foundational and key terms, resources, and strategies for addressing racism in Head Start settings.”

I'd encourage people to go view the slides from the presentations themselves, as there are far too many to cover in this article, and you can access the full PDF by clicking here

With that said, some examples include slides that define four different supposed types of racism while encouraging teachers to have "courageous conversations about race." Others promote "championing anti-racist ideas," proclaiming "equity" at the center of Head Start's mission, and claim that "colorblind attitudes" are a barrier to advancing "racial and ethnic equity." The left-wing concept of "microaggressions is also discussed."

It gets much worse, though. One section accuses babies of being racist, claiming they discriminate based on faces, making judgments about race and gender. Another says that three to five-year-olds use race to "negotiate power," claiming they engage in "implicit bias," a favorite phrase on the race-obsessed far left. The sheer level of woke jammed into these presentations is unfathomable. One that took place in September of 2020 even included a "land acknowledgment" for the "seized territory of the Dakota people."

In 2022, Head Start teamed up with "Sesame Street" to provide "racial justice resources." That spanned several presentations, including mixing DEI with health issues, claiming that certain races are exposed to "toxins." They also promoted a "game" called "Let's talk about race."

On September 1, 2022, Head Start hosted a webinar with the makers of Sesame Street to provide “racial justice resources” using storybooks and workshops. “In this webinar, we are celebrating our differences on the inside and out. This webinar recording explores developmentally appropriate ways to discuss race with young children and language that staff can use in response to challenging questions children may have about race.”

Here's a bit of the “LGBTQIA2S+” materials that were being spread.

In list of covered groups for equitable treatment, Head Start defined “LGBTQIA2S+” as “lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer or questioning, intersex, asexual, two-spirit, or additional sexual orientations and gender identities.”

“Equity promotes consistent, systemic, and equitable access to comprehensive services and systems for everyone, including… People who are LGBTQIA2S+ [lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer or questioning, intersex, asexual, two-spirit, or additional sexual orientations and gender identities]."

Of course, one of the most absurd involved the "transing" of Old MacDonald. Here are the updated lyrics that were put out by Head Start.

Head Start also embraced transgender ideology, referring to pregnant women as “birthing parents” and “pregnant people” in social media posts. The program also proposed ways to make activities for children “more inclusive,” including by changing the lyrics to “Old MacDonald Had A Farm.”

“Old MacDonald had a farm, E-I-E-I-O And on that farm he/she/they had a pig, E-I-E-I-O,” the updated lyrics read.

As to where much of this originated, it's not hard to figure out. Head Start was directly promoting the work of Ibram X. Kendi and Nicole Hannah Jones (of the infamous "1619 Project). Both are notorious race-grifters.

That all of this was happening right under the nose of President Donald Trump during his first term shows the extent to which DEI had infected the federal government, and don't kid yourself, this stuff is still heavily present. You don't weed out harmful ideologies that are this embedded simply by providing overnight. Still, the exposure of this stuff will hopefully lead to even more firings and leadership changes (to be clear, Bergeron is no longer over Head Start) across the government.
