in a somewhat surprising move, it has finally happened over at MSNBC: Comically racist primetime host Joy Reid has been given the ax, with her show set to air its final episode sometime in the coming week.

According to reports, Reid will be replaced by Symone Sanders Townsend, Alicia Menendez, and Michael Steele, mimicking the panel setup of "Morning Joe."

MSNBC liberal mainstay Joy Reid’s show has been canceled as part of a major overhaul by the network’s new president Rebecca Kutler, according to a report.

The 7 p.m. program hosted by Trump critic Reid, 56, will be replaced by a new panel show featuring co-hosts Alicia Menendez, Michael Steele, and Symone Sanders Townsend, the New York Times reported, citing insiders.

The final episode of Reid’s show, “The ReidOut,” will air sometime this week, ending a mainstay of MSNBC’s lineup for the past five years, according to the Times.

The shakeup comes as part of a restructuring led by Rebecca Kutler, who was recently named the network's new head. Along with Reid, left-wing host Alex Wagner is also losing her show. This is likely just the first wave, with more hosts likely on the chopping block as MSNBC looks to regain its footing after a disastrous ratings drop following the 2024 election. Reid's show had been scraping the bottom of the barrel, having lost over half its audience in just a few months.

In December, Nielsen Media Research revealed that Reid had lost almost half her viewers since the election of Donald Trump, with MSNBC seeing a whopping 53% drop in primetime viewership following the Nov. 5 result.

No one is more upset with this development than conservative commentators. Reid was a goldmine of material, having produced countless deranged rants over the years. She infamously claimed Kamala Harris ran a "flawless" campaign on election night in November, citing an endorsement by Queen Latifa as her proof.

REID: I mean, this really was a historic, flawlessly run campaign. She had, Queen Latifah never endorses anyone. She had every prominent celebrity voice. She had, she had the Taylor Swift, the Swifties. She had the beehive. Like, she could not have run a better campaign in that short period of time, and I think that's still true.

As statements from Reid go, that was fairly tame given it didn't include baseless race-baiting, but it was relevant in showing just how out-of-touch with reality she and others at MSNBC were and remain. Celebrity endorsements do not win presidential elections. No one cares who Queen Latifah says to vote for. I don't even know what the "beehive" is in this context, and I'm not that old. Yet, Reid believes Harris, who was handed a billion dollars before the DNC without having to fight a primary, ran a "flawless" campaign.

Of course, it was the soon-to-be-former host's racism that continually marked her public persona and produced viral clip after viral clip for the rest of us to roast.

Following the Islamic terrorist attack in New Orleans that claimed the lives of over a dozen people, Reid took to the airwaves to have one of her guests claim that "young, white men" are the true threat in America. "The Reid Out" bordered on parody at times based on its level of absurdity.

So why did I say this was surprising at the beginning of this piece given Reid's low ratings and delusional, hateful demeanor? Because I didn't think MSNBC would ever have the guts to pull the plug given her position on the left's intersectional hierarchy. Let's be honest, if she were a white male, she'd have been fired many years ago based on the scandals she suffered and the lunacy she's spewed while costing her network. It was starting to look like her intersectional armor was impenetrable.

I suppose MSNBC deserves some credit for finally making the necessary move, but only a little. They let Reid fester and spread her mouth-breathing hate for far longer than they should have, and it shouldn't have taken an over 50 percent drop in ratings to get to this point. I'm also less than convinced that replacing her with a panel of similar, if not slightly more self-controlled left-wingers is going to turn the network's fortunes around. At the end of the day, MSNBC's problems relate to the systemic bias of the network. They don't revolve around just a few hosts, as deserving of the boot as they were.
