Michael Cohen's journey from villain to rehabilitated hero in the eyes of the left has been something to behold. The convicted felon started his time in the political spotlight as a hated lawyer and top advisor to Donald Trump, earning a deluge of sneers and insults from the press along the way.
Like a prodigal son coming home, though, all it took was Cohen renouncing his faith in the former president and announcing his devotion to the left-wing orthodoxy to gain his public salvation. Of course, he was a devoted Democrat before his rise to prominence so the transition was an easy one for him.
Still, being reborn for the likes of CNN and MSNBC doesn't mean much for one's actual intellect. On the contrary, it speaks against one's mental prowess, and that's perfectly illustrated by Cohen's latest scandal. According to RedState, he was recently busted for feeding fake research to his lawyers that he created with AI.
Is this the dumbest man on the planet? You be the judge.
But it turns out that Michael Cohen, the lawyer they're hoping to use against former President Donald Trump in the criminal case in Manhattan, was caught using AI for citations that he gave his attorney that were then used in a motion filed with a federal judge.
(...)
This all came out because the judge in the case couldn't find three of the cases cited and ordered on Dec. 12 that Schwartz produce the cases and, if he couldn't, explain how non-existent cases got in his filings along with Cohen's role in them. The judge also asked Schwartz why he should not be sanctioned for made-up cases in his filing.
Former Trump lawyer Michael Cohen did legal research for his own lawyer. He apparently fed his lawyer cases to cite in a filing with a federal court. Turns out the cases were fake ones Cohen got by using Artificial Intelligence. Oof. pic.twitter.com/pCTIABpNpx

Cohen claims that this was all a mistake caused by his lack of understanding of how AI programs work. How anyone who passed the bar could not know that AI programs are notoriously inaccurate and untrustworthy is beyond me, but here we are. He wanted to save money, though, and in doing so he put his own lawyers in legal jeopardy, a move that will likely make garnering decent representation in the future difficult.
This is also another black mark against Cohen when it comes to his participation in various prosecutions against Trump. A convicted lawyer who tried to defraud a court by feeding his lawyers fake legal cases doesn't seem like he would be the best witness, but what do I know?
Regardless, all of this speaks to the shallowness of the modern left. It's been obvious since Cohen first appeared on the scene as a Trump acolyte that he was a slimy doofus who never should have been anywhere near the heights of political power. And yes, for those screaming at me under their breath, I realize that Trump himself holds the blame for elevating such a self-serving clown.
That doesn't excuse the press for pretending Cohen is anything other than he is, just because he now holds the "right" views about Trump and the broader Republican Party. I'd ask if they have any standards, but the answer would be as obvious as asking if a human requires oxygen to live. If Cohen is their ticket to taking down the former president, at least in the already incredibly silly Manhattan case, they probably should start making other plans.
None of this is surprising, though. The press has shown that there is no person they aren't willing to embrace as long as they agree to bend the knee to the far left. Remember that the next time another poll comes out showing their credibility is in the toilet.
