Beto O’Rourke might be the most unimpressive politician currently on the circuit, if it weren’t for Kamala Harris. The man who has failed at running for the Senate and the Presidency is back for another go at it, this time running to be the Governor of Texas. That stark lack of ability was on full display again, as he attempted to jumpstart his failing gubernatorial bid in Texas by heckling Greg Abbott during a press conference covering the tragic shooting in Uvalde.
In a completely staged stunt, Beto slipped into the theater after two individuals who were in on the plan got up and left. He then attempted to shout down those on the stage, much to the glee of his ActBlue supporters and MSNBC hosts everywhere. That led to some rather colorful language from Uvalde’s mayor, who let it rip in response to the gross scene.
The man who is on stage telling Beto O'Rouke to leave and saying he is out of line is Uvalde Mayor Don McLaughlin. https://t.co/nQ53XRgBZ7

But while Beto plays the alpha when he knows the press will praise him without question and he’s able to play his pre-planned role, he morphs into a beta the moment he’s pressed on anything. That’s what happened when a personality and investigative reporter named Drew Hernandez confronted him on Friday. Here’s what that looked like.
BETA MALE: I confronted @BetoORourke today and asked him why he decided to exploit dead kids, he refused to give me an answer. He sure seems big and bold on stage, but when confronted he won’t even look at me pic.twitter.com/7QBkz2TT3D

Certainly, Hernandez’s techniques are a bit unorthodox, as he begins to shout at Beto that he’s a beta for refusing to answer his questions, but is that really any more out of line than what Beto himself did on Wednesday at that press conference? Of course, it’s not. Beto got a taste of his own medicine, and instead of standing tall, he cowered, continuing to only acknowledge those fawning over him.
If he were truly the man he claims to be, he wouldn’t ignore the Uvalde families who let it be known that they didn’t appreciate his fundraising ploy. But he’s not the man he claims to be. Rather, he’s your typical wealthy, spoiled politician who continues to fail upwards, at least in the eyes of the press, because he plays for the “right” team.
And in the end, he’s going to get clocked again in November. Beto is a mirage. He’s a dumpster fire of a politician who can’t hold a consistent position (he’s flip-flopped on guns multiple times over the campaign) and who repeats talking points with all the proficiency of a high-school debate drop-out. I know the cable news hosts love him, but they exist in a bubble that in no way is replicated across the state of Texas. When Beto loses to Abbott by 10 points in six months, what will he do then? I suppose there’s always another grifting campaign to run.
