Has Stacey Abrams had an epiphany about her recent mask hypocrisy? Probably not, but at the very least, she’s recognized the political liability it’s become.

This entire saga started when a picture of Abrams sans mask emerged while children were forcibly muzzled all around her. Clay Travis then obtained more photos showing it wasn’t just one momentary removal, but that she was parading around under the admitted demand that everyone else be masked so she could go wild and free.

Of course, Abrams spent the first few days accusing people who criticized her of racism. Yet, she’s suddenly changed her tune. While on CNN, Abrams admitted that she had made a “mistake,” pledging to do better if she were to be elected as governor.

The left immediately took this is as proof of Abrams’ vast integrity. “Look how she took responsibility,” they gleefully proclaimed from their blue checkmark social media accounts.

But that’s not how any of this works. When a politician spends days calling people racist and insisting that any attack on their hypocrisy is the result of Trump boot-licking (yes, her comms person said that), they don’t get to then take the high-road — only after it’s become apparent they dug the hole too deep.

Georgians got an eye-full of exactly what kind of governor Abrams would be. Namely, someone who sees themselves as above normal people, including children. The only person at a high risk of a COVID complication in those photos was Abrams herself. If anyone needed to have an N95 taped to their face, it was her. Instead, she did what Democrats have often done: Show that they don’t take the pandemic nearly as seriously as they demand you take it.

The only reason Abrams changed her tune is that she remembered that she’s running in Georgia, not New York. If she felt she could have gotten away with it politically, she never would have admitted fault. That she did, only days after trashing her critics, only shows how manufactured and cynical her campaign for governor is.

Abrams clearly supports mask mandates for children, and that should be disqualifying. There is no science behind such a stance, and at this point, it’s borderline abusive. It also shows that she’s willing to go along to get along when it comes to the rabid, hysterical members of her base. Instead of looking to represent all Georgians, she is only looking to represent the far-left views of metro Atlanta.

In the end, she can continue to raise gobs of cash from outside donors, but voters know what she is, and I suspect that’ll mean another loss on her record in November.
