I’ve spent a lot of time over the last few days writing on the reconciliation fight currently engulfing the Democrat Party. It’s to the point where I’m just about ready to write on just about anything else in order to give my mind a break from the constant tussle.
And while I don’t get to dictate the news, I do have some say in how I approach it. Enter the following article from Rolling Stone that I found rather intriguing, not because it holds any intellectual heft, but because I think it perfectly illustrates what’s driving the Democrat civil war we are witnessing.
"Unless Manchin changes his position dramatically, he will be remembered as the man who, when the moment of decision came, chose to condemn virtually every living creature on Earth to a hellish future of suffering, hardship, and death."

West Virginia Sen. Joe Manchin just cooked the planet. I don’t mean that in a metaphorical sense. I mean that literally. Unless Manchin changes his negotiating position dramatically in the near future, he will be remembered as the man who, when the moment of decision came, chose to condemn virtually every living creature on Earth to a hellish future of suffering, hardship, and death.
Quite a legacy. But he has earned it.
It continues from there, but you get the idea. Per this writer, Joe Manchin has doomed all of humanity and every other creature on earth to a coming fiery hellscape by opposing a $3.5 trillion budget bill. Why? Because, according to this author, the US government is so all-powerful that it can simply spend its way to “saving” the planet from the supposed coming catastrophe of “climate change.”
If that sounds delusional, that’s because it is. Yet, many progressives, including many serving in Congress right now, are part of a cult of death that truly believes they are the saviors of the world. Without them valiantly taking money they didn’t earn to blow it on green energy payoffs, humanity is doomed. There’s something deeply disturbing about people so self-absorbed and sure of their own power that they literally believe they can control the climate at a level that dictates if the planet lives or dies, yet here we are. Like those building the Tower of Babel, the outsized sense of one’s place is front and center.
Meanwhile, even the worst climate-change predictions from the most dedicated in the scientific community do not actually predict the world is going to spontaneously combust and doom every creature to a hellish death. Rather, they predict a marginal rise in global temperature over the next 100 years which will require some human adaptation, specifically regarding droughts and in dealing with flooding.
Even still, context is often missing from those predictions. For example, far more people die of exposure to the cold every year than exposure to heat. A heating planet could cost lives, but could also save more lives in the process. A rise in the global temperature could also open up more areas of the globe to greater production of food. But the true believers don’t care about the details. To them, any suggestion that humanity could adapt, overcome, and thrive in an era of climate change is heresy, and any solution that doesn’t include the shunning of fossil fuels and the building of a socialist utopia is impure.
Of course, in the midst of these true believers lies an even worse group currently supporting the massive reconciliation bill. That would be those Democrats who aren’t actually naive enough to believe a single spending bill can save the world but act as if it can anyway. These cynical political operatives use manufactured, overstated fear in order to gain short-term political wins. There’s something especially gross about that as it presumes the worst possible motive, namely, one of absolute selfishness. At least the true believers do think they are saving humanity with their communist dreams.
Either way, true believer or not, the cult of death surrounding climate change dominates the Democrat Party now, pushing it to open civil war with its few moderate members left, and there are no plans for a return to rationality.
