This is the post I was hoping to not have to write.

As things have collapsed further in Afghanistan following Joe Biden disaster pullout effort, the threat of terrorism has been elevated. Now, we have reports of an explosion and mass casualties.

Here’s John Kirby plying coy about the situation.

We can confirm an explosion outside Kabul airport. Casualties are unclear at this time. We will provide additional details when we can.

But on the ground reports say mass casualties have occurred.

Details are obviously fluid and we will have a more complete report as soon as it’s available. What I do know is that this is going to throw the situation in Afghanistan into even further turmoil as no one else will be able to reach the airport after this.
