Tucker Carlson is never one to shy away from broaching topics that cover controversial social issues. That was on display again last night when the top-rated Fox News host lambasted the U.S. military for focusing on competing in the woke Olympics instead of countering China’s very dangerous rise.

The usual accusations of bigotry followed, but Tucker was on the money with this segment.

The Daily Caller provides some excerpts for those who can’t watch the video. For context, Tucker is addressing a comparison between the U.S. and China when these quotes pick up.

“How are we responding to this?” Carlson asked. “At the White House yesterday, Joe Biden addressed it effectively. What’s the American response? Here’s what Joe Biden said: ‘Some of it is relatively straightforward work where we are making good progress designing body armor that fits women properly, tailoring combat uniforms for women, creating maternity flight suits, updating requirements for their hairstyles. And some of it is going to take an —you know, an intensity of purpose and initiative to really change the culture and the habits that cause women to leave the military.’”

“So we’ve got new hairstyles and new maternity flight suits, pregnant women are going to fight our wars,” Carlson continued. “It’s a mockery of the U.S. military. While China’s military becomes more masculine as it assembles the world’s largest Navy, our military needs to become more feminine, whatever feminine means anymore because men and women no longer exist. The bottom line is it’s out of control. And the Pentagon’s going along with this. This is a mockery of the U.S. Military and its core mission which is winning wars.”

Some of this stuff seems harmless enough. Are hairstyles, for example, really going to make or break military preparedness? Probably not. Yet, other aspects like Biden bragging about elevating generals, not for their accomplishments, but for their gender, do seem suspect and likely to cause problems. An enemy such as China simply doesn’t care how woke you are. They care about whether you can provide a bulwark to their aggression or not. If you can’t, they will take advantage in devastating ways.

Further, the harmful rantings of critical race theory have garnered a newfound presence in our armed forces, especially following Joe Biden’s inauguration. The Navy recently included Ibram X. Kendi’s racist screed, ‘How to Be an Antiracist,’ on its 2021 reading list.

Tucker’s criticism was couched in the fact that China is simultaneously undertaking an initiative to make its military more masculine, which is the exact opposite path America is currently taking. While we were obsessed with meaningless battles about hairstyles and white privilege, the Chinese managed to build the world’s largest naval force, and it’s actually a capable one.

At the end of the day, mission capability is all that truly matters in the armed forces. Everything else is a distraction. Teaching critical race theory and lowering standards to be more “inclusive” are recipes for disaster when the going truly gets tough. The danger here can’t be understated, and while Tucker may take grief for bringing it up, he’s absolutely dead on.
