Portland continues to sink into the abyss, as violent riots have swept the city for months now (see Portland Mayor Ted Wheeler Leads Protests In Portland Wed. Night – Feds Didn’t Change Tactics). But the chaos doesn’t just come out at night. The city is also seeing a spike in other crimes, including violent ones. One was caught on video recently, with Andy Ngo reporting on the incident.

The following video shows a man entering a laundromat and hitting a woman with a saw before leaving the scene. Viewer discretion is advised.

According to Ngo, police pursued the man, who had obviously just committed a heinous crime. What was the response? Bystanders gathered around the officers screaming at them that they were racist for trying to make the arrest.

We’ve entered the twilight zone, or at least large parts of the country have. When it’s now racist for police to arrest someone who just committed a violent crime minutes beforehand, what exactly even is the standard at this point? Never arrest anyone non-white again? That might seem ludicrous, but that’s actually part of the argument we are hearing from the intersectional left. They say that because the system is “racist,” people are corrupted by that system to commit crimes, therefore the system is still to blame and not the individual. It’s how you get mayors across the country letting violent criminals back out onto the streets under the ridiculous notion that they were simply oppressed and will do fine now.

What this incident further shows is that there’s also no awakening coming in these cities anytime soon. I wish it weren’t so, and I’m not suggesting Republicans don’t try to make inroads. But that’s a long, long term battle. In the short term, many of these far-left city residents are true believers, whether they are standing on the sidelines or setting a courthouse on fire. There’s a reason they are still living there and voting for the people they vote for.

In the end, I think the suffering is going to have to continue, and it may be years before the stars align for enough people to wake up and say enough is enough in these cities. As long as they keep putting people like Ted Wheeler in charge and electing communists to their city councils, the violence will continue, though. It’s a sad scene, but it’s largely one of the voters’ making. They have to lay in the bed they’ve made.
