Rep. Ted Yoho got into a heated exchange with Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez two days ago. It involved some of her more recent ridiculous comments. One anonymous bystander claims he heard Yoho later call her a “f****** b****,” but Yoho denies he ever said that. As of now, there’s no evidence he actually did, and not even AOC claims to have heard it.
Yoho, being a Republican, was quickly and viciously attacked by the media, with an apology demanded. And like most Republicans, he folded and offered one for daring to confront the queen.
That went about as well as you’d expect.
‘Disingenuous’: Ocasio-Cortez Refuses To Accept Rep. Yoho’s Apology After Reportedly Calling Her A ‘F**king B*tch’ https://t.co/gjMDu2Q2Wn

Democratic New York Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez refused to accept Republican Florida Rep. Ted Yoho’s apology Wednesday after he reportedly confronted her outside of the Capitol building Monday and called her a “fucking bitch” as he walked away.
“I will not teach my nieces and young people watching that this an apology, and what they should learn to accept,” Ocasio-Cortez tweeted. “Yoho is refusing responsibility.”
The highlighted part is the key. Democrats never just demand civility. They demand obedience and subservience. Because Yoho still disagrees with her politically and won’t denounce the point he was trying to make, he’s accused to not be taking responsibility. When it comes to the left, nothing is every just about a single issue. To AOC, this is about Yoho not buying into her socialist utopia, not that he got heated with her on the Capitol steps. She’s not going to accept his apology, because to her he’s the enemy, not a colleague.
After rejecting Yoho’s apology, AOC took to the House floor with several members of “the squad” to rub his nose in it and ensure he was publicly humiliated, because that was always going to be the game.
"My father, thankfully, is not alive to see how Mr. Yoho treated his daughter. My mother got to see Mr. Yoho's disrespect on the floor of this House towards me on television. I am here because I have to show my parents that…that they did not raise me to accept abuse from men." pic.twitter.com/cf0woHRf58

There’s a lesson in here somewhere for Republicans. You think they can find it?
This is why apologizing in these instances instances is pointless. I’m all for apologizing when you’ve actually done something wrong, but Yoho denied using expletives (and there’s no evidence he did), which means all he actually did was dare to confront her on her comments. That’s not wrong. It’s exactly what Republicans want to see from their politicians, and it’s far tamer than how disagreements used to be handled within Congress. What’s he even apologizing for?
Further, this is politics, and holding one’s opponents to an equal standard matters. Has AOC ever apologized for making false accusations of racism against numerous Republicans? Has she apologized for accusing Republicans of wanting to see people die? Has she apologized for comparing CPB to Nazis? I’m going to go out on a limb and suggest that AOC doesn’t deserve to be groveled before for simply saying the truth to her about her commentary.
In the end, there is no decorum anymore. The GOP should stop operating within their delusion that they can bring about a new moment of civility by subjugating themselves before Democrats acting in obvious bad-faith. Yoho can bend the knee, but Democrats will never care. It will never be enough.
