The description of Chicago’s latest mass shooting is something you’d expect to find written in The Babylon Bee. Nearly two dozen people were shot last night in the city, with 14 of them coming in one act of violence that took place at a funeral home.

Yes, you read that correctly. People are becoming shooting victims while attending funerals for shooting victims. Life is imitating parody in Chicago now.

A service for a shooting victim on the South Side of Chicago ended with a drive-by shooting and a gun battle that claimed more than a dozen victims.

Police First Deputy Superintendent Eric Carter said at an evening press conference that 14 people sustained gunshot wounds, but police confirmed on Wednesday morning that 15 were injured.

Chicago TV station ABC-7, citing the Chicago Fire Department, reported that 11 people were hospitalized, “all in serious to critical condition.” The discrepancies in the hospital counts may arise from people self-transporting to hospital.

Luckily, Mayor Lori Lightfoot has her eye on the ball. Is she upping the police response and retaking the streets of her city? Nah, she’s mouthing off to Trump for attempting to restore some semblance of sanity to Chicago.

Because the real problem here is federal authorities protecting federal property and not the gang violence that is wreaking havoc on her citizens. Yelling orange man bad is the solution for everything when it comes to Democrat governance. Her citizens are already being terrorized, and it’s not by Donald Trump.

Speaking of gang violence, here’s just how bad things are.

Chicago now has more gang members than most countries have in their organized armies. Chicago police are having to respond to hundreds of conflicts per day. Those are levels of violence that would make Afghanistan blush. Mixed in with those conflicts are a body count that continues to stagger, including children being routinely injured and killed.

But again, what’s the Mayor’s priority? Not her citizens, but sniping at Trump on Twitter for using federal law enforcement to enforce federal laws. Any sane mayor would be happy to have to have the extra resources given the situation in Chicago, but not Lightfoot. I don’t know if she’s got higher political aspirations or if she’s really just this awful, but she’d rather see her city burn and citizens slaughtered than accept help from the orange man.

Is this really what the citizens of Chicago want? Their voting patterns say yes, and that’s disappointing. Conservatives like to think that common sense ultimately reigns, but there’s little evidence that’s true. Right now, Chicago is on a path to destruction, and unless people wake up and begin to accept strict enforcement of the law, it won’t stop. There is no world whereby some new woke policing fixes this.
