It’s good to be a Democrat. I feel like I’ve written that a lot over my years here at RedState. That magical D next to your next means you can do just about anything without a peep from CNN, nor a hint of enforcement from the federal government.
For proof of that, look no further than Rep. Ilhan Omar, who’s made a name for herself as an America hating intersectionalist in Congress who seemingly wants to turn the country into some mix of Somalia and the Soviet Union. The self-described member of the “squad” has been no stranger to controversy, with ample evidence she once fraudulently married her brother as part of committing immigration fraud. To date, we’ve heard rumblings of an investigation, but nothing has come of it. That’s pretty much par for the course these days.
Meanwhile, Omar has only grown bolder. Recently, she was caught cheating on her now ex-husband with her political consultant. After a quick divorce, she’s now married to her former lover and continues to shovel campaign money into his coffers, which in turn allows her to basically profit off her own campaign.
This per Fox News.
Rep. Ilhan Omar, D-Minn., continues to dish out six-figure payments to her husband’s firm, which has now received more than $1 million from her campaign this cycle.
Federal Election Commission records released Tuesday afternoon show that Omar’s campaign funneled $228,384.93 last quarter to the E Street Group, a D.C.-based consulting firm run by the congresswoman’s husband, Tim Mynett. The payments, predominantly for digital and fundraising services, bring the total that Omar’s campaign has sent to Mynett’s firm to just over $1 million for the 2020 cycle.
Omar, a freshmen congresswoman, has faced scrutiny over numerous financial and personal issues since she was elected in 2018. She has drawn criticism for a lack of transparency about her previous marriages, over campaign finance violations, and for a potential violation of House ethics rules pertaining to the advance she received on a recently published memoir. Pressed for answers, she has routinely dismissed the inquiries as “smears” and “conspiracy theories.”
How legal this scheme is depends on who you ask. Some believe it’s clearly a violation of campaign finance law to funnel money to your husband, thereby giving you access as a candidate to those funds for private use. It would certainly be illegal if Omar directly used campaign funds for personal use, which is what she’s clearly doing here by way of a backdoor.
Jonathan Turley doesn’t go that far, instead believing his is a loop-hole that needs fixing.
There is a new report that the payments to Omar's husband may top one million. https://t.co/2I2u568tCx As discussed earlier, this is one of the long-standing ethical loopholes that many of us have railed against for years. https://t.co/iX7iGRDw6W

Regardless of the legal implications, there’s no doubt this is incredibly unethical, and if a Republican were doing this, it’d be a top story with calls for his or her resignation. On an objective level, this is far, far worse than the recent accusations against GOP Sen. Kelly Loeffler, which drew about a weeks worth of national media outrage. But because it’s Omar, she’s well protected, both because she ranks high on the intersectional hierarchy and simply because she’s a liberal Democrat.
Meanwhile, the DOJ continues to not even bother pursing Omar and many other Democrats (often described as “civil servants) who appear to have been involved in illegal activity. Again, it’s good to be a Democrat.
