For the sake of the Republican party, this better not be true, though there’s reason to believe it might be. We’ll do a little reading between the lines in a second.

A new report from Fox News is claiming that John Durham may be looking to “punt” the end of his investigation beyond the November election.

Two sources familiar with Durham’s investigation told Fox News this week that Durham is working expeditiously to try to finish the probe by the end of summer, but that several lines of investigation are not yet complete.

“He believes it’s critical to do them,” one source said. “He is feeling more pressure to get this done and wrapped up.”

The source also told Fox News that Durham “does not want this to be viewed political,” and the closer it gets to November, Durham could “punt it to after the election.”

On its face, this doesn’t seem very definitive to me. But I have worried that the DOJ may move to not release their findings in order to not “interfere” with the election. While that may seem ludicrous to those of us that have watched this unfold for years, don’t underestimate the pressure of bureaucratic decorum. Durham is not a partisan, he’s a careerist, and if he feels his work may be overly politicized, he may seek to protect it.

Julie Kelly, who’s been focused on this issue like a laser beam, responded this morning and appears to believe there’s some truth to it.

What’s Kelly talking about? Trump, for seemingly no reason, went on Twitter early this morning and starting posting in all caps about “prosecutorial misconduct” and “Presidential harassment.

Usually, when Trump goes to Twitter with cryptic messages, it’s because he’s been tipped off to something that is developing. Is he responding to internal news that Durham won’t release his findings until after the vote?

As I said at the beginning of this article, for the sake of the Republican party, this better not be true. Voters have handed the GOP the Senate. What have they done on this issue? Absolutely nothing. Lindsey Graham has made a big show and said the right things on TV, but he’s yet to subpoena anyone of note, nor is he even holding public hearings to get all this out in the open. With less than 30 days left on the Congressional calendar before the election, there’s little to no chance he finishes up his investigation.

Voters also handed the GOP the presidency and the DOJ. They didn’t do that so business as usual could continue in Washington. People that are corrupt should be held accountable. If Barr doesn’t deliver here, it’s going to be a death blow to the credibility of his agency. The only way faith is restored in these institutions is if those that clearly acted improperly are punished for what they did. That includes charging people for lying to the FBI and the FISA court.

Time is ticking. Durham needs to deliver something by August or things are going to get a lot more complicated. And if via some idiotic decision he waits until after the election? He might as well pack up and head home. If Biden wins, he’ll fire Durham on his first day. If there is any justice to be served here, it has to happen in the next few months.
