A new report from Newsmax’s White House correspondent Emerald Robinson is claiming that President Trump is looking to get a DACA deal done before the election. This is a bit of a surprising revelation given all that’s transpiring currently. You would think DACA would be nowhere near the list of priorities.

The most predictable thing of the day is that Jared Kushner would be behind such a push. His political instincts are about as sharpened as your average poodle, so of course pushing amnesty during an election year seems like a great thing for a Republican president to do.

In reality, there’s likely noway this actually happens. Even if the White House were fully on board, Nancy Pelosi is not going to hand Trump a “win” like this during an election year. Past negotiations over DACA have went absolutely nowhere and the only way the conversation would even get started is if Trump dropped his push for increased enforcement. I have my doubts he would do that when there’s little to no political benefit in it.

That leads us to the question of how his supporters would react. If Jesse Kelly is any indication, the answer is not very well.

The issue of the unemployed and coronavirus is a big one. We are at what looks to be the beginning of a V shaped recover, with the stock market already showing massive gains as job losses bottom out. Workers will likely not take too kindly to having the already overflowing pool of workers seeking jobs further filled.

In the end, I question whether this report is even true, much less do I think any such deal would actually pass Congress and receive Trump’s signature. There may have been a time some years ago when an amnesty deal like this could have been shoved through and bitterly swallowed by voters. Now is not that time.
