Kayleigh McEnany has quickly been elevated by the press as a chief rival. The new press secretary isn’t despised because she doesn’t tell the truth, though. Rather, she’s despised because she does her homework and continually makes the journalists in the room with her look petty and ridiculous. But instead of upping their game and attempting to be better at their jobs, the press has instead decided to double down on idiocy.

Case in point, some guy in a fedora decided to ask McEnany today, not about anything to do with the current administration, but about her views on same sex marriage in college. Yes, this is real life.

This seems to be a really hard concept for reporters to grasp in the Trump era, but press secretaries are not there to speak for themselves. They are not even there to have previously agreed with every single thing the president they now believes. But because the media are obsessed with playing gotcha, they’ll ask ludicrous, meaningless questions like this in the middle of a pandemic.

I mean, what did he expect to accomplish? To prove that Trump is secretly against gay marriage even though he’s been supportive of it longer than most Democrats? Or is the idea that McEnany is somehow compromised because she once held a different view than Trump?

Here’s the reporter trying to brag about his escapades on Twitter.

I’m not sure what the point of all these LGBT questions are, but it seems to be this guy’s obsession. In the first tweet, he appears to think that he caught McEneny, but again, press briefings aren’t about McEnany. If these reporter don’t want to ask prudent questions, they shouldn’t be in the briefing. It’s taking valuable time away from others who might actually want information that’s relevant (ah, who am I kidding).

This is all just so juvenile. How does someone like this get a hard pass and the opportunity to ask questions of the administration? What the heck is the Washington Blade anyway? These are answers we may never get I suppose. What I do know is that the media have shown themselves to be a joke. Meanwhile, Kayleigh McEnany is really good at her job.
