The media are an absolute parody of themselves at this point.
MSNBC’s Brian Williams, who is somehow back to being an anchor, decided to show he lacks any and all shame by inviting John Brennan on to discuss the unmasking scandal today. Obamagate is blowing up, with Brennan actually being directly implicated (among many other things he had his hands in). Yet, NBC apparently thinks it’s proper to throw him softballs and ask him to lecture Fox News voters instead of treating him as the one who needs to answer questions.

John Brennan is not well. This is a guy who routinely spews conspiratorial nonsense, having no sense of remorse of how wrong he’s been about all this stuff. For NBC to even continue to retain him as an analyst is a crime against journalism. Brennan is almost assuredly under investigation right now via the DOJ, but he’s still being treated as a bystander. He wasn’t. He was one of the ringleaders.
On @cnn you stoked a conspiracy that @realDonaldTrump was a Russian asset.
Behind closed doors, under oath, you admitted it was all BS.
You were the disinformation campaign. https://t.co/lKrpH0WY1z

Further, the idea that these unmaskings were proper is laughable. Something doesn’t have to be a crime to be corrupt and wrong. Remember how often we were told that during Trump’s impeachment? That applies here. These Obama officials were unmasking Trump cabinet officials, and even his children, up until the day they left office. The reason they were doing that is obvious. They were desperately looking for a way to stop him from taking off or sabotage him after his inauguration.
What happened to journalist standards that said you didn’t treat someone implicated in a corruption scheme as an unbiased source to comment on said corruption scheme? Brian Williams has never not been a hack, but come on.
While most members of the Obama administration will likely be in the clear as far as real punishment goes, Brennan, Clapper, and a few others need to face charges for what they did. It’s almost certain they were behind the mass leaking that took place, they orchestrated a spying campaign on a political rival, and then they lied about it to Congress. John Durham needs to take these guys down.
