Just when I thought Joe Biden’s return tour couldn’t get anymore awkward, it does. After coming out of hiding, the former VP did two interviews yesterday, with the first one on The View not going well at all (see A Half-Sedated Looking Joe Biden Devolves Into Incoherence On The View).

But then Biden did an interview with MSNBC’s Nicole Wallace as well, and it manages to be both hilariously cringey and painfully sad at the same time. On the one hand, watching the almost certain Democrat nominee trip all over himself and say crazy things is funny. On the other hand, this is clearly not a man who currently holds the mental faculties to be doing this.

If you can’t watch the clips, it’s Biden’s issues on full display. In the first one, we see him trying to go on a tangent about people who have lost something, but we don’t know what that something is because he loses his ability to speak midway through, makes a huffing sound, and says “anyway” before Nicole Wallace rushes in to try to save him.

In the second clip, Biden uses the term “yo-yo” and for some reason thinks he’s just uttered a racist phrase. He stumbles to retract it and gets in an odd staring match with Wallace, who is smiling profusely for some reason. By the last clip, Biden is correcting himself for things that aren’t even correction-worthy. He asks why Trump can’t just act like a president but then stops and says “that’s a stupid way to say it.” After a long pause, Wallace invites him to reframe his point, but he just waves and says “probably best I don’t” before signing off.

I’m not even sure what I’m watching at this point but it sure feels like a guy who’s not up to being the presidential nominee for a major party.

Of course, Nicole Wallace loved it, because she’s that politically desperate at this point.

There’s only so much lipstick you can slap on the pig of a candidate that is Joe Biden. Wallace tries her best, but no one is buying it. No amount of smiling and thank yous is going to cover up what everyone just witnessed in that interview.

I’m expecting Biden’s campaign to just pull the plug on public appearances for a while. What do they even have to gain? All he’s doing is presenting to the world that he’s mentally slipping. These aren’t word salads like we’d see with other politicians who may be trying to talk themselves around an issue. No, this is a guy who looks like he’s about to pass out and can’t get through a coherent thought without blanking out. Something is very wrong here.

If the Democrats are smart, they’ll move to replace him. That’s probably why Bernie Sanders is staying in the race, though. If he were out, there would be a clear path to elevate an Andrew Cuomo or whoever. But Bernie is making sure he’s the clear second option and that leaves Democrats with few options.

They are in a complete lose-lose right now. You hate to see it.
