Anti-Semites gonna anti-Semite.
In the wake of the recent killing of Iranian #2 Qassem Soleimani (in response to Iran killing an American and storming a U.S. embassy), the Mullahs were left pathetically lobbing missiles into the dirt and shooting down civilian airliners in their own airspace. Despite the clear delineation between right and wrong here, Democrats had to spin this obvious win for Trump as something else. We had valiant efforts by Jackie Speier and Pete Buttigieg, in which both blamed the United States for Iran incompetently killing 176 people 600 miles from where they were attacking Iraq with no military retaliation.
But there was a political retaliation in the form of further sanctions and this naturally got Ilhan Omar very upset.
“This makes no sense. Sanctions are economic warfare,” the Minnesota Democrat said Wednesday on Twitter. “They have already caused medical shortages and countless deaths in Iran. You cannot claim to want deescalation and then announce new sanctions with no clear goal. This is not a measured response!”
Omar has never met an Islamic or socialist dictator she doesn’t want to fluff and give a pass to (unless they are Sunni Saudi Arabia for obvious reasons). She notably decried sanctions on Venezuela and tried to blame their economic collapse on them. The only problem was that said sanctions had not even got into effect yet when the socialist paradise descended into a hellscape.
But there’s one country Omar absolutely wants to sanction into the ground and it just happens to be the only Jewish state in the world. Weird how her ire continually manages to find it’s way to the Jews, right?
The mainstream media were obviously never going to ask her about this discrepancy, but a reporter for Townhall managed to pin her down. Omar’s answer is a word salad of stupid and bigotry.
I asked Rep. Omar what her response is to those calling out her support for BDS against Israel while criticizing sanctions against Iran. She said it's "very different" bc BDS is by the people, while Iranian sanctions is by a gov to create maximum pressure.https://t.co/3TVNGFpWy1 pic.twitter.com/e2kC3qfllD

Apparently, Omar wants to pretend she’s too clueless to know sanctions are never “by the people.” The very definition of them dictates they come from the government. For example, you as a member of “the people” can not place sanctions your local city council because you dislike them. And in the case of a foreign country, sanctions can only come from the highest levels of government. She knows this, but when caught on the spot, Omar needed a way to spin it so she wasn’t simply targeting the Jews for being Jewish, even though that’s exactly what she’s doing.
And just in case anyone else wants to play dumb about sanctions, the BDS website itself touts them as a government action and cites examples like South Africa. There is no question that Omar’s support for BDS involves the United States putting sanctions on Israel that would cripple them economically.
There are no more excuses left at this point. Ilhan Omar decries sanctioning pretty much any other country, including aggressive terror states, but wants to crush a Jewish ally with them. There’s one obvious distinction between the former and the latter and Omar’s anti-Semitism is laid bare by it. It’s a travesty that those supposedly tasked with holding politicians accountable, i.e. mainstream “journalists,” continue to ignore and obfuscate for her terrible ideology.
