If you had one guess as to which network would rush to rehabilitate disgraced former Rep. Katie Hill’s image, it’d have to be CNN, right? I mean, this is the same network that had a permanent prime time slot for Michael Avenatti, so it’s a bit like taking Tiger Woods in his prime against the field. Although, even I’m a little surprised that it’s all happening this soon. You’d think they’d at least give it six months. But hacks gotta hack.

Hill first appeared with Chris Cuomo on Friday night, where she made this hilarious assertion.

She’s going to run for Senate, isn’t she?

But not content with that embarrassingly biased, tame interview, CNN decided they needed to go ahead and let Hill make the rounds. She’s got to be allowed to get her message out there, which mainly consists of her being the victim. And who better to tee up such a farcical narrative than Brian Stelter?

This is how he spun the whole thing.

STELTER: What should people understand about what it’s like to see these websites publishing intimate photos or what it’s like to be attacked on Fox News? There’s multiple layers here. But what should people know about that experience?

HILL: I think it’s that it’s one of the darkest things you can experience.

Such hard-hitting journalism. Shortly after, he asked her what her favorite flavor of ice cream is.

As the interview went on, it was clear that Stelter was dancing around the facts. “So, you did admit to a breach of responsibility with this inappropriate relationship, but then you’ve also denied other elements of these accusations against you,” he told her. “There’s been this very ugly divorce proceeding, you say that you’re the victim essentially of this smear campaign. Am I getting it right? Is that correct?”

Here’s a tip for Stelter. If the allegations are proven, which they were, it’s not a “smear campaign.” Words have actual meanings, even if overpaid CNN correspondents can’t seem to grasp them. Any journalist worth their salt would have pushed back on any claim that Hill was simply the victim of a smear campaign, but Stelter decides he’s going to go on offense and say it himself.

If Hill were a man, she’d never be heard from again. Her transgressions were far worse than Al Franken, and I’m not even sure he’s still alive. This is a woman who slept with a Congressional staffer who was being paid by taxpayers. She also carried on a threesome with a young campaign staffer. The #metoo movement has assured me those are gross abuses of power and sometimes even tantamount to sexual assault.

Yet, here’s Hill being welcomed on CNN, just two months later, and allowed to play the victim.

All of this ends with Hill making a political comeback. It won’t be in 2020, but I’ll go ahead and predict she runs for Senate once Dianne Feinstein retires. Meanwhile, networks like CNN and MSNBC will be right there to pretend what she did was just a “right-wing smear” instead of reporting the facts.
