Beto O’Rourke’s campaign has reached the desperation phase.

Having only managed to draw around 2% in most of the polls of the past few months, Beto has decided to throw caution to the wind and go as far left as possible. He can’t give a speech these days without calling Trump Hitler or bemoaning his own privilege to pander to the social justice crowd.

He’s also gone well outside of the mainstream on guns, calling for a “gun buy back” program a month ago. Beto’s language is getting more pointed now. Take this latest comment.

This is the kind of thing you’d expect to hear from a tin pot dictator and even though we’ve become desensitized to much of this kind of talk, it’s still pretty striking when you dwell on it. A presidential candidate is telling the country that he would force them to sell something he disproves of to the government. Never mind the constitutional rights in play here, Beto’s word is apparently all that is needed.

There’s also the ridiculous notion of “buying back” weapons. No one that I know of (outside of perhaps old surplus sales?) buys their guns from the government, therefore they can’t “buy” them back. We’ve heard this proposal from other failed candidates such as Kirsten Gillibrand and it’s an idea that’s picking up steam in liberal circles.

What it really shows is just how perverse a view the left has of the government’s power over normal citizens. In there minds, everything comes from the state and is thereby the purview of the state. It’s an ideological viewpoint that has led to tyranny throughout history. In the minds of these Democrat candidates though, that is totally acceptable and it’s why they can use the buy back language without even realizing how illogical it is.

Of course, the other big issue here is exactly how such a plan would even be enforced.

Any gun confiscation program would end badly in a variety of ways, not the least of which would be the probable violence. I’d also posit that many state and local police departments would simply ignore such an edict, as they should. They aren’t subject to he unconstitutional whims of the President. We could also get into the ignorance displayed by comparing an AK-47 to an AR-15, but I digress.

The good news is that Beto isn’t going to be President. His flailing pandering and desperation are simply signs of how short on life his campaign really is. There’s a certain justice in seeing a guy so propped up and mythologized by the media when he ran for Senate now crash and burn so hard running for president. We can all hope his political career meets its final death soon.
