NBC News Proclaims That Heterosexuality Is "Just Not Working"

Makes sense.

If you thought things couldn’t get crazier this week, I present this NBC News editorial for your consideration. Someone in their newsroom apparently thought it would be a good idea to publish an editorial praising the destruction of marriages as a triumph over the patriarchy because everything is stupid.

Over the past week, an assortment of trending stories — from Jeffrey Epstein to the Dayton and El Paso mass shooters, to Miley Cyrus’s separation and Julianne Hough’s declaration that she’s “not straight” — together have laid bare the strictures of an American patriarchy on the edge of a nervous breakdown. As the status quo, heterosexuality is just not working.

What does the El Paso shooting have to do with the patriarchy? I’m pretty sure that was about a crazy person and white supremacy. But when your currency is victimhood, one can essentially tie everything to supposed inequalities among identity groups and that’s what this author is doing.

She proclaims that “heterosexuality is just not working,” you know, except for it populating the earth for the entirety of human existence and forming the basis of the family unit that has given us the innovations and societal advancements we enjoy today.

Who is the model of proper sexuality and relationship this author wants us to learn from? Why, Miley Cyrus of course.

Shortly after it was announced that Cyrus and her husband, Liam Hemsworth, were splitting up, photos of the singer kissing a woman in Italy made the tabloid rounds. But even before the break-up, Cyrus embraced her nonheterosexual identity in Elle’s August cover story. In language that echoed Hough’s ownership of, and responsibility for, her sexuality and marriage choices, Cyrus noted that she “made a partner decision” by choosing to marry Hemsworth in late 2018 because he was, she explained, “the person I feel has my back the most.”

Cyrus thoughtfully explains how her sexuality is both distinct from and influences her definition of what a relationship looks like. “Being someone who takes such pride in individuality and freedom, and being a proud member of the LGBTQ+ community,” she writes in a personal memo in Vanity Fair in February, “I’ve been inspired by redefining again what a relationship in this generation looks like.”

Or, and hear me out, maybe Cyrus’ perverse view of marriage was just really stupid and that’s why it led to her recent divorce. Perhaps marrying someone just because you feel like they “have your back” while giving nothing back in the relationship is not enough to sustain marital bliss? Perhaps her “redefining” of what a relationship looks like just sucks?

“Sexuality and gender identity are completely separate from partnership.”

No, no they aren’t, and a person who makes a living singing terrible songs and twerking on stage probably isn’t in a position of philosophical authority to make such claims. Yet, NBC News is happy to print this tripe proposing such.

Sometimes I wonder what freakish timeline I’ve accidentally found myself in. What’s written in this woman’s piece isn’t just a recipe for relational disaster, it’s a blueprint for the downfall of civilization. Marriage is not a compact centered around selfish desires. It’s a compact centered on loving, caring for, and prioritizing your spouse over yourself.

I also shouldn’t have to point out that heterosexuality, contrary to the assertions made, is actually working and is the basis for the continuation of humanity. Maybe lay off bashing it too much.

What this article really shows is just how dangerously narcissistic left-wing thought has become. Everything is about self gratification in the here and now, those around us be damned. Self-sacrifice in relationships is being actively discouraged and that leads to a very dangerous place.
