Joe Biden Offers Condolences to Wrong Locations After Mass Shootings

Joe Biden’s biggest flaw in the 2020 race is the fact that he’s noticeably aging in front of voters’ eyes. For much of the campaign, he’s attempted to remain in hiding, only showing his face for the occasional teleprompter speech or the debates, which he’s forced to endure.

Following two tragic mass shootings in El Paso and Dayton, some 2020 Democrat candidates blamed Trump and racism to score political points despite the fact that the Dayton shooter was an avowed socialist and Sanders/Warren supporter. Some yelled about Fox News. One candidate even fund-raised off of it.

Joe Biden, on the other hand, apparently doesn’t even know what day it is.

Former Vice President Joe Biden misstated the locations of mass shootings in El Paso, Texas, and Dayton, Ohio, while speaking to donors at a high-dollar fundraiser in San Diego on Sunday night.

Biden, 76, mistakenly referred to the shootings as “the tragic events in Houston today and also in Michigan the day before,” but later corrected himself, according to a pool report. Biden seemingly confused Houston for El Paso and Michigan for Ohio when speaking to donors about the shootings.

Imagine being so high profile and not knowing what the locations of the two mass shootings that had just taken place a day earlier. How does one make that mistake? The simple answer is that Biden is just old. No, I don’t think he’s going to fall over dead tomorrow, but he appears to have even worse faculties than you’d expect from a nearly 80-year-old man. He routinely misstates things. At the debate the other night he made no less than 9 verbal gaffes, including asking people to “Go to Joe 30330,” seemingly not knowing that he wasn’t citing a website. Other times he simply appeared confused.

As a political exercise, I’d like you to imagine what the media would do if Donald Trump misstated the locations of both of these mass shootings. Heck, let’s say he just flubbed the name of one of them. Actually, we don’t have to imagine. Trump read the wrong name of one of the cities this morning after one of his staff put the wrong name in the teleprompter. The media immediately ran with it even though that’s a much more forgivable situation.

This is a problem for Biden going forward. The “sleepy Joe” label has stuck and he’s reinforcing its truth every time he speaks publicly. It’s worth remembering we are still well over a year out from the election. What will Biden’s disposition be like next summer after a year of campaigning? The odds are it won’t be good.
