But why though?

The Democrats are currently embroiled in a civil war so damaging that you have members calling each other racist and threatening to primary one another. For the first time since their election, the self-described “squad” of Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and her minions are on their heels, not sure how to react to the fire they are taking. Even the liberal media are infighting about which side to take as the volleys are launched.

Meanwhile, the economy is booming and President Trump is enjoying one of the more positive stretches of his tenure.

Well, he was at least. For some reason, he thought it would be a good idea to wake up this morning and tweet this.

So interesting to see “Progressive” Democrat Congresswomen, who originally came from countries whose governments are a complete and total catastrophe, the worst, most corrupt and inept anywhere in the world (if they even have a functioning government at all), now loudly……

This is so self-destructive that it makes me want to beat my head against a wall.

Of the “Congresswomen” he could possibly be addressing here (which are undoubtedly Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Ilhan Omar, Rashida Tlaib, and Ayanna Pressley), three of them were born in America. They don’t have countries to go back to. One isn’t even a first generation American. She’s just…black.

Sure, I could parse this out and torture it, asserting that Trump is really only talking about Ilhan Omar despite the entire thing being in the plural tense and the aforementioned four all being in the news for the very thing he’s complaining about. I’m not going to do that though because I’d be lying to myself. This wasn’t thought out or planned. It wasn’t nuanced. It was Trump jumping on Twitter, not thinking about what he was saying, and pushing the publish button on the tweet.

All Trump had to do was stop and reflect for a moment. He’s got people all around him who could have pointed out “hey, this is going to cause a lot of blow back on you and your supporters at the worst possible time.” Another set of eyes and a simple tweak to the wording could have fixed it, but he refuses to take those precautions. Even now, he could issue a follow up clarification that would at least help provide some semblance cover for his supporters. He hasn’t done so.

If I could ask the President one question, it’d be this. Why make it so difficult for those who are trying to get you re-elected?

Democrats are collapsing in on themselves. All he has to do was sit back and not distract them. Instead he rips his shirt off and runs out on the battlefield screaming to be shot at. I know, 3-D chess and all that, but this just makes no sense.

And that’s exactly what is happening. Pelosi has now been given the perfect situation to bring peace to her civil war while redirecting all the fire on Republicans and she’s taking advantage of it.

We’ve got literal socialists running for President. People that want to do away with all immigration enforcement, raise taxes, and outlaw private health insurance. In other words, the stakes for 2020 are incredibly high.

All Trump has to do is play to his strengths, i.e. the economy and immigration, and he wins. But he just can’t stop stepping on his own feet. When your enemies are blasting each other, you don’t step in between them and beg to be shot in head. Yet, that’s exactly what Trump did here.

Instead of another week of AOC and Pelosi bad mouthing each other, we get a return to a unified Democrat front and multiple news cycles calling Republicans racists.

If Trump loses in 2020, it won’t be Paul Ryan’s fault, the Republican party’s fault, or the media’s fault. It’ll be a defeat that was wholly self-inflicted because he refused to practice any semblance of self-control when it comes to his personality. No one with an economy this good should be trailing Joe Biden by ten points or languishing with an approval rating in the mid-40s. Trump is though, not because of his policies, but because he’s constantly stepping on landmines when all he has to do is stay out of the minefield.

His only possible saving grace is that Democrats are absolutely crazy and will continue to push further leftward as the election season continues. For me personally, I’d prefer not to play a high stakes game of chicken with the country’s future. In the end, this isn’t about Trump. Like all politicians, he’s just a means to an end. Republicans need to be victorious in 2020 and not handing the Democrats a bucket of water after they set themselves ablaze would be prudent.
