AOC Accuses Pelosi of Making Her Do Actual Work

The inter-party fighting between Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Nancy Pelosi keeps getting more ridiculous.

The most recent volley involved Pelosi telling her members that she wants them to bring their problems to her and to stop tweeting their displeasure about their colleagues to the public. This came in an address to the House Democratic caucus seeking to unify the warring factions.

The Daily Mail reported on what happened as well as some other interesting comments from AOC.

‘You got a complaint? You come and talk to me about it. But do not tweet about our Members and expect us to think that that is just ok,’ the speaker told them according to a source in the room.

The speaker pushed to cool tensions between her more moderate and liberal wings of the party in the wake of a public boiling over that was partially due to comments she made to The New York Times about Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and her ‘squad’ of liberal lawmakers.

Asking AOC not to tweet her grievances is like asking her not to breath, so yeah, good luck with that one.

Pelosi predictably took a shot at Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell as well in an attempt to deflect criticism from her own caucus over the latest border funding bill.

‘Mitch McConnell would have been very happy if we passed nothing, and nothing was done. He doesn’t care about the children,’ she said of the Senate GOP leader.

‘But to have nothing go to the children. I just couldn’t do that. I’m here to help the children when it’s easy and when it’s hard. Some of you are here to make a beautiful pâté but we’re making sausage most of the time,’ she added.

McConnell preferred to do nothing so he…sent the House a clean, bi-partisan bill for them to pass. Sounds logical.

Something else stuck out to me in the article though, namely that AOC is quoted as complaining that Nancy Pelosi was making her do actual work.

The most prominent of those is Ocasio-Cortez, who has become a Democratic force to be reckoned with – a prominence she suggested the party leadership was aware of, noting she was given several prominent committee assignments in an effort to keep her busy – and likely out of their hair.

‘I was assigned to some of the busiest committees and four subcommittees. So my hands are full. And sometimes I wonder if they’re trying to keep me busy,’ she said.

Yes, yes they are trying to keep you busy. You see, being elected to Congress is not about Instagram and staged photo-ops at the border. It’s about actually getting things done. That means serving on committees, doing research, helping write bills, and generally trying to be of some use in governing. Freshman members do not get to walk in and start setting policy platforms and are expected to earn their dues.

This apparently came as a shock to AOC, who sees the fact that she was (stupidly) given top committee assignments as a negative that’s holding her down. I mean, how is she supposed to riff about concentration camps and global warming all the time on Twitter if she’s got to show up for work?

I’m just glad AOC is here to remind us how difficult it is to be an elected official in Congress. I mean, you’ve got go to work for almost half the year. Your average American clearly couldn’t handle such a grueling schedule.
