President Trump has an uncanny way of driving his opponents absolutely insane.

The lead up to this Fourth of July has been no different. The Washington Post has run at least a dozen “Trump is a tyrant for having tanks on the mall” pieces in the past 24 hours. Some networks won’t air the celebration at all. You’ve got Democrats asserting this is like Tienanmen Square and the beginning of a fascist takeover. One MSNBC contributor even decided to let us know the Betsy Ross flag is the equivalent to a swastika because of course he did.

There’s no such thing as levity anymore.

Now that the day is finally here, we are apparently going to get even more crazy unleashed on the National Mall. From a “baby Trump” balloon to organized burnings of the American flag.

The liberal activist organization Code Pink is planning to fly a “Baby Trump blimp,” referencing the 20-foot blimp that flew in London during Trump’s visits there in 2018 and 2019. According to the event description, it is still fundraising to “make sure Trump gets a great view.”

The group lists the protest as taking place in front of the Lincoln Memorial. But it’s unclear how close they will get given security restrictions in place before and during the celebration.

I’ll go ahead and spoil it. They aren’t getting anywhere near the Lincoln Memorial with that thing.

The man at the center of the 1984 U.S. Supreme Court case that protected the burning of the U.S. flag as constitutionally protected free speech is planning to protest the president as well.

Gregory Lee Johnson, who recently settled for $225,000 with the city of Cleveland for burning an American flag outside of the Republican National Convention in 2016, said he’ll be doing it again Thursday.

“I am going to D.C. on the Fourth of July and I’m going to burn the flag in protest (of his) whole fascist agenda,” Johnson told USA TODAY.

“Think about all Trump has done to whip people into a frenzy,” he said.

I mean, he’s right about one thing. Trump has certainly whipped these people into a frenzy.

Here’s what I predict for today. It’ll be a cool parade, the fireworks will be great as always, and most people will enjoy themselves. The country won’t end, there will be no military coup, and Rachel Maddow will be back on the air tomorrow. The planet will continue to spin properly on its axis.

Trump’s opponents just can’t help themselves though. All they are doing by lashing out like this is helping his re-election. Most people around the country, even Trump skeptical moderates, look at flag burning and baby Trump balloons as idiocy. It’s the kind of rabid, abnormality that drives people away from the Democrat party, not toward it.

But hey, I’m good with it. Keep isolating voters all the way to 2020 and Donald Trump thanks you for your contribution to his campaign.
