CNN Purposely Takes Trump Out of Context and Misrepresents His Comments About Meghan Markle

I’m shocked, shocked I tell you. On the plus side, I’m getting a lot of use out of the above fake news t-shirt picture.

When I first saw the headline for this story, I knew there had to be more to it. Trump is a bull in a china shop, but randomly noting that Meghan Markle “is nasty” seemed a bit much.

Here’s how CNN reported it.

Describing his comments, CNN reported in its headline: “Trump tells The Sun: Meghan Markle is ‘nasty’”.

The chyron on CNN’s television segment on the matter read: “Trump Calls Meghan Markle ‘nasty’ Ahead of UK Trip”.

Conservative establishment favorite and supposed straight shooter, Jake Tapper, got in on the action as well.

Seems bad doesn’t it?

I also think I’d be remiss not to note the obvious racial insinuations being made by these headlines. They might as well have written “Trump calls bi-racial woman nasty for no reason.”

As usual, the real story turns out to be much different than CNN makes it out to be. Here’s the full transcript.

What Trump was actually saying was that he didn’t realize that Meghan Markle had been nasty about his possible election with her pledge to leave the country for Canada. He was not calling her “nasty” as a person and he was answering within the context of a question asked of him.

This isn’t even one of those times where you have to sort of interpret what Trump meant. The transcript is clear. Anybody that speaks English can read it and see exactly what he was saying. Framing it as Trump asserting that Markle “is nasty,” as CNN did, is simply false.

Furthermore, instead of engaging with the reporter, who’s obviously trying to get a rise out of him, he goes on to praise Markle in an attempt to clear the air and move on. In its full context, this story resembles absolutely none of the impressions the headlines CNN put out are giving.

Remember this the next time Jake Tapper, Jim Acosta, or whoever at CNN gets their feelings hurt at being called fake news. These people have earned the moniker and continue to justify its use every single day. No one is making them bare their biases so regularly. It’s an active decision.

Want more credibility? Act more credibly.
