As I wrote a few days ago, the pro-Brexit party, which didn’t exist about ten minutes ago, looks like it is going to win huge in last Thursday’s elections in the U.K. (official results aren’t until Sunday). This is a swift repudiation of the “remain” establishment that was seeking a second referendum to undo Brexit. It’s also a rejection of leftism, as the socialist Labour Party continues to shrink its minority status.
Due to the all but certain results, current Prime Minister Theresa May resigned today. She had hemorrhaged most of her support in the conservative party and simply had no path forward. That’s got people asking who the next PM will be and we’ve got a very likely answer.
Enter Boris Johnson.

Johnson once famously said this about his chances of becoming PM.
“I have as much chance of becoming Prime Minister as of being decapitated by a frisbee or of finding Elvis.”
Well, looks like he’s about to lose his head because he’s the odds on favorite to win the spot right now. He’s the most popular conservative politician (that’s the pool the next PM will come from), has a large base of support, is an avid Brexiteer, and all the betting markets are saying he’s the guy.
This has got leftists pulling their hair out, as Johnson enjoys about the same level of popularity among them as Donald Trump does.
The New York Times ran negative stories all day, including one titled Britain on the Brink of Boris Johnson and Chaos.
The European press are taking it well.

Does all this sound familiar? It’s the same playbook they’ve continually used against Trump.
For Johnson’s part, he’s not playing games. When asked about Brexit, he laid down a hard deadline and said there will be no more extensions, deal or no deal.
“We will leave the EU on October 31, deal or no deal… The way to get a good deal is to prepare for a no deal. To get things done you need to be prepared to walk away.”
Sounds like common sense to me. May’s tact of basically begging the EU not to blackmail them wasn’t working. It’s time to call their bluff and Johnson is the kind of leader who will do it. The EU needs Britain’s trade as much as Britain needs them. There’s no reason for France and Germany to be lording over the U.K. in the manner they’ve been since the original vote. If the EU wants to try to punish the Brits, I’m sure there are plenty of American companies that’ll be happy to work out new avenues of trade.
No doubt, this will all lead to plenty of tears and leftists everywhere will continue to lose their minds, but that’s ok. The people voted to leave the corrupt scheme that is the EU and they deserve to have their vote respected. No more extensions, no more referendums, and no more games.
