Mike Pompeo recently took a trip Belgium and Russia where Townhall’s Guy Benson got a chance to interview him.

Iran was obviously the topic of the day, including the new intelligence which caused the U.S. and several other nations (despite the media’s narrative pushing that it was made up) to pull personnel out of harms way. The obvious reason being that they don’t want another Benghazi on their hands. There’s also the issue of Iran equipping small boats in the Persian Gulf with missiles and their continued support of terrorists that pose a threat to U.S. forces and staff.

After discussing that, things then got really interesting.

Benson asked Pompeo what he thought about John Kerry pretending he’s still Secretary of State and trying to sabotage our foreign policy toward the Islamic Republic.

Here’s the transcript of his response.

POMPEO: It is ahistorical and completely unhelpful when previous secretaries of state are continuing to engage in the tasks that they engaged in when they were the secretary of state. I’ll leave it at that in the sense of it’s time to get off the stage for the previous administration. I understand they have different views than we have; they are entitled to those views. But talking with senior leaders around the world and suggesting to them somehow that waiting out this administration is the best course of action for those countries is something that is unheard of, it is fundamentally different than any previous administration has undertaken, and they ought to leave the foreign policy to us. And then do their best to give folks with foreign policy views that have appeased the Iranians, that allowed Chairman Kim Jong-Un to continue to advance his nuclear threat, that put us prostrate around the world — if those are the policies they want, they should go fight for them at the ballot box.

Pompeo nails it.

John Kerry has no business meeting with the Iranians and telling them to just wait out Trump. If that’s the kind of foreign policy that Kerry wants, he can try winning an election. Until then, Donald Trump is President. It’s completely improper, dangerous even, for a former Secretary of State to operate this way and subvert U.S. interests. American citizens, both military and civilian, are at risk from Iranian aggression and Kerry is choosing to empower them.

There’s also the fact of how morally reprehensible it is for an American to take the side of a murderous regime over his own countrymen. Iran funds terrorism, they oppress their own people, and they seek the destruction of Israel. What possible motivation is there for Kerry to help them avoid accountability via U.S. pressure? I’ll let you speculate on that one.
