Of all the Russian truthers, MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow stands out among the crowd. She went from barely registering in the ratings to competing for the #1 spot in her time slot solely on the back of Russian hysteria. Every single night you can find her musing about whatever latest conspiracy theory she’s latched onto.

Then came the Mueller report and her world began to collapse. Many of Maddow’s viewers realized they’d been had and stopped watching. She saw an incredible 500,000 person drop in viewership on the Monday after AG Barr released his summary. That just doesn’t happen under normal circumstances. Her fall in the ratings has continued apace.

Never one to give up though, she thought she’d found a new conspiracy theory this past Friday evening. You see, AG Barr is actually orchestrating a cover-up by lying about what’s in the report and redacting information to protect the President.

At least that’s what she led her show off with. Then things got hilarious. Pay attention to what Maddow is saying vs. what the chyron right below her reads.

HotAir’s John Sexton gives a summary.

Her whole tone is conspiratorial. “This is a thing that Mueller’s team does in it’s sleep,” she said. “It is hard to believe that they’d leave the newly appointed 68-year-old Attorney General William Barr to himself personally pick through the report to try to figure out ‘what mentions in this 400-page report might pertain to open cases?’” she added. Maybe it’s hard to believe because you don’t know the facts.

Watching her rattle on like a crazed loon while the chyron reads the exact opposite of what she’s saying (and the latter is factually correct) is some quality entertainment. I’m sure whatever producer put that up got an earful during the commercial break.

In reality, AG Barr had already said that Robert Mueller and his office were directly participating in the redaction process. Unlike Maddow’s false claim, Barr is not doing it himself in a smokey back room in order to protect Trump. I also like how she suggests his age makes him incapable or something. That’s pretty random coming from someone who wanted to elect the 71-year-old Hillary Clinton as President.

MSNBC is desperate to keep this story alive, as is CNN. They know that they got a very artificial bump in ratings the last two years and are now scrambling to hold on. This is why you see them ignoring the obvious and pretending there are still questions about Russian collusion.

The truth is, there is no conspiracy going on with the Mueller report. AG Barr is not a Trump apologist. He’s a former Bush White House official with a reputation a mile long. He’s not going to trash that reputation by lying about a report that will be public in 2-3 weeks anyway. That makes absolutely no sense. I’d hope Maddow’s viewers are smart enough to realize that, but if Twitter is any indication, they aren’t.

In the meantime, we get to enjoy watching her sink further and further into insanity. If Trump gets re-elected in 2020, I really don’t know what will happen to these people.
