As you’ve probably heard, the Mueller report summary is out and shows no collusion and no actionable evidence of obstruction of justice. Robert Mueller found zero evidence that Trump or any of his associates worked with the Russians to interfere in the 2016 election. Period. That’s not debatable anymore.
Before that release this afternoon, Rep. Adam Schiff slithered his way down to ABC studios this morning to be thrown softballs by George Stephanopoulos and to do damage control over the Mueller report.
He has made several outright false claims the past two years about evidence existing regarding collusion between Donald Trump and Russia. He’s sometimes walked them back, other times he’s just taken advantage of the fact that no one in the media will ever push back on him. It’s good to be a Democrat.
He’s back at it today, ensuring his loyal followers (as well as people not named Stephanopoulos) that he’s still got the goods. You see, it doesn’t matter that Mueller lacked evidence to charge anyone with conspiracy. Schiff still has “significant evidence” that Donald Trump colluded with the Russians, because this is apparently the kind of gaslighting our media likes to put on air.
Rep. Adam Schiff (D-Calif.), the chairman of the House Intelligence Committee, defended his assessment Sunday that there exists “significant evidence of collusion” between President Donald Trump’s 2016 campaign and the Kremlin — despite word from the Justice Department that special counsel Robert Mueller will not be recommending any further indictments in his investigation into Russian election interference.
“There’s a difference between compelling evidence of collusion and whether the special counsel concludes that he can prove beyond a reasonable doubt the criminal charge of conspiracy,” Schiff told host George Stephanopoulos on ABC’s “This Week.”
There’s actually not much of a difference. If evidence is compelling, it’s enough for a grand jury to indict. As is often said, you can indict a ham sandwich. The assertion that “compelling evidence” exists that collusion happened but Mueller couldn’t manage a single indictment, even on the margins, related to it is asinine. The entire focus of the investigation was Russian collusion. If Mueller could have gotten even a single person in connection with such a conspiracy, he’d have done so.
“I leave that decision to Bob Mueller, and I have full confidence in him,” Schiff continued, adding that Americans owe Mueller “a debt of gratitude” for conducting his 22-month-long probe “as professionally as he has.”
“I trust in his prosecutorial judgment,” Schiff said.
“But that doesn’t mean, of course, that there isn’t compelling and incriminating evidence that should be shared with the American people.”
He’s lying on both counts here.
He clearly doesn’t actually trust Robert Mueller. If he did, he’d respect his findings and not go hire an MSNBC flak to do his own redundant investigation. By continuing to push things he has no proof of, he’s signaling he doesn’t trust Mueller’s judgement.
His last statement is so nonsensical it makes my head hurt. If “incriminating” evidence exists, there’d have been indictments, maybe not of the President but at least of people around him regarding collusion. None exists, which is why even Adam Schiff, who leaks like a sieve to CNN, hasn’t been able to put anything out there that supports his wild conspiracy theory.
The truth is, this entire thing was questionable from the beginning. It then became a vehicle for Democrats and the media to explain how Hillary Clinton could have possibly lost the 2016 election. They invested their entire being into this conspiracy theory and now that it’s crumbling, they feel they have to double down and desperately look for any way to keep it standing. They are like a stalker who just can’t get over their obsession.
Adam Schiff has no business chairing a committee that is investigating any of this. He’s proven himself to be nothing but a hack who will lie continually to push a narrative. He’s likely broken laws regarding leaking and he’s helped feed a false information campaign for partisan gain. All along the way, our virtuous media complex has graciously obliged to spreading the garbage he’s put in front of them.
If they weren’t such a dumpster fire, they’d perhaps ask him to share some of this “compelling” evidence he’s rattling on about. I mean, Schiff is for full transparency right?
