A scary situation is unfolding in the Tucson, Arizona, area as two suspects are on the loose following the fatal shooting of a 23-year-old Tucson police recruit and the wounding of his 23-year-old girlfriend. Authorities say the two were engaged and share a child.
The suspects were described as Hispanic males wearing all black clothes and ski masks and driving a gray Acura MDX.
Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos told reporters what is known so far:

Good morning. This is a pretty sad day for law enforcement today.
About 6 o'clock this morning, we received a 911 call from a home in this neighborhood, the 7700 Block of Enchanted Spring [about 17 miles southwest of Tucson].
Deputies responded to the call, found a young 23-year-old man inside, deceased, and his wife [later determined to be his girlfriend], also 23 years old, with a gunshot wound. She's been transported to a local area hospital. She is in stable condition.
The young man was a member of the Tucson Police Department. The young lady is a member of our [Sheriff's] department.
This is a pretty active ongoing investigation. I don't have a lot of detail for you, but I would tell you that we certainly need the public’s help. If they heard something, know something, saw something, please let us know.
Detectives are working it now, they'll be in the neighborhood throughout the day.

They say, “On August 19, 2026, shortly before 6:00 a.m., Pima County Sheriff's Department (PCSD) San Xavier District deputies responded to reports of a shooting at a residence in the 7700 block of South Enchanted Spring Drive.
Police said the piece over the gas cap may be missing.
The slain officer was identified as TPD recruit Carlos Ramirez. His girlfriend has not been identified but is reported to be in stable condition with non-life-threatening injuries.
