As the U.S. blocking of the Strait of Hormuz begins Monday morning, a new CBS -YouGov poll showed Sunday that the American public overwhelmingly backs President Trump’s goals in the Iran conflict and his vow to never let the Islamic Republic obtain nuclear weapons.
Over eighty percent want to see the Iranian people set free:
Americans broadly support them; 87 percent say Strait of Hormuz needs to be reopened; 81 percent want to ensure freedom for the Iranian people; 76 percent want to permanently stop Iran's nuclear program; 55 percent want the current leaders ousted before we end the war.

CENTCOM Starts the Iranian Blockade Monday - Here Are the Rules and What to Look For
The military campaign has had many twists and turns in recent days as Vice President JD Vance brought a delegation to Pakistan over the weekend to negotiate with the remaining leaders of the embattled regime. However, those talks broke down as hardliners refused to agree to permanently give up their fantasy of obtaining nuclear weapons.
Following the collapse of the talks, Trump declared that America would impose a blockade on the Strait of Hormuz, through which 20 percent of the world’s oil travels, and prevent any oil tankers from attempting to visit Iranian ports. The blockade was scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. ET Monday and is now in effect.
Critics warn that although we’ve wiped out their Navy and sunk all of their big ships, their smaller craft still pose a threat. As RedState’s Ward Clark reported earlier Monday, Trump said those boats will be treated just like we’ve been treating cartel watercraft in our Southern hemisphere: we'll blast them out of the water.
While Americans strongly support the administration’s goals in Iran, as the poll shows, it also reveals that many are nervous about our overseas action, as one might expect. Whenever our servicemembers are in danger, Americans are concerned for them:

The overall results of the poll are a bit schizophrenic — respondents overwhelmingly support the mission, but are really freaked out that he is actually taking action after 47 years. It’s kind of like most of the Europeans: “We want a free Iran, we want to stop the mullahs from committing terror, and we want the Strait of Hormuz open. We’re just not going to actually do anything about all those things.”
The conflict has entered a new and complicated phase, and it may get harder before it gets easier. That being said, a huge percentage want to see the decades-old Iran problem solved. They just have to realize that if it were an easy job, we would have done it years ago.
Editor's Note: For decades, former presidents have been all talk and no action. Now, Donald Trump is eliminating the threat from Iran once and for all.
