The Huge, Great, Terrific Story Behind the Rise of a Top Trump Impersonator

I’ve written about Shawn Farash before, because I think he’s funny as hell. In my mind, he’s one of the best — if not the best — Trump impersonators out there. He doesn’t try to look like the president, but it’s uncanny how much he can make himself sound like him. He gets the inflections right, the pace, and the kind of things Trump might say perfectly right.

Here he is congratulating the U.S. Olympic men’s hockey team for winning their epic gold medal against Canada in overtime:

People’s taste in comedy varies widely, but if you don’t find “Snow Mexico” and "shut the Tkachuk up" funny, I don’t know what to tell you.

Farash didn’t just decide one day out of the blue to become an impersonator and internet celebrity — it just sort of happened. The story behind it is simply perfect. He gave the details to The Bongino Show podcast on Tuesday with host —you guessed it— Dan Bongino:

The story is much funnier when Shawn tells it, so I encourage you to watch, but here’s the short version: he was working as a DirecTV salesman in 2016, and on occasion, a customer would ask him if they would lose Fox News if they switched. Instantly, we would know that the customer was likely conservative.

Being a guy who liked to mess around with impersonations, he’d answer in his Trumpian voice, “Do I look like somebody who would make you watch the Fake News? We’re gonna make sure you get your Fox News, it’s going to be great, you’re gonna love it.”

“And they’d be like, ‘Whoa! What was that?!'” he said of the customers.

I can only imagine how far my jaw would drop if a salesman suddenly started talking to me in an almost perfect imitation of Donald Trump.

A friend urged him to post a clip on TikTok, it struck a chord with viewers, and the rest is history.

His success has garnered him almost half a million followers on X, tens of thousands more on YouTube, 240K on TikTok, a podcast called “UNGOVERNED,” which promises “The Greatest Videos in the History of the World,” and even a chance to meet the president:

If there’s anyone who’d love to see a third Trump term, it would probably be Shawn Farash. That being said, he seems talented enough to find a way to success no matter who is president.
