Attorney General Pam Bondi announced Monday that the FBI had arrested four suspects in an imminent and credible terrorist bombing plot planned for New Year’s Eve in Los Angeles. The news comes on the heels of the horrific antisemitic shooting in Australia on Sunday, which killed 16 people, and the Brown University shooting Saturday night, which left two dead.

Bondi said in a statement that a radical leftist group called the Turtle Island Liberation Front was planning to bomb several sites in various locations on the holiday:

The tweet continues:

The Turtle Island Liberation Front—a far-left, pro-Palestine, anti-government, and anti-capitalist group—was preparing to conduct a series of bombings against multiple targets in California beginning on New Year’s Eve. The group also planned to target ICE agents and vehicles.

This was an incredible effort by our U.S. Attorneys’ Offices and the @FBI to ensure Americans can live in peace. We will continue to pursue these terror groups and bring them to justice.

FBI Director Kash Patel gave more details:

The subjects self-identified as members of a radical offshoot of the Turtle Island Liberation Front (TILF), an extremist group motivated by pro-Palestinian, anti-law-enforcement, and anti-government ideology. They were allegedly planning coordinated IED bombing attacks on New Year's Eve, targeting five separate locations across Los Angeles.

In the days since, @FBINewOrleans arrested an additional FIFTH individual believed to be linked to this radical TILF subgroup - also allegedly planning a separate violent attack.

Outstanding work by our investigators and law enforcement partners @TheJusticeDept. Their work undoubtedly saved countless lives.

According to the complaint filed in the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California, four people have been charged with conspiracy and possession of an unregistered destructive device. They had planned on planting explosives at five locations around LA that were going to be set to go off at the stroke of midnight on New Year’s Eve.

As of this writing, the Turtle Island Liberation Front appears to still have active profiles on both X and Facebook. The name “Turtle Island” is used by some to refer to indigenous peoples. There is no actual island by that name; rather, it refers to stories and traditions, and can also be used to mean North America.

The group’s positions are extreme

The Turtle Island Liberation Front describes itself on Facebook as a political organization that seeks "liberation of occupied Turtle Island and liberation of all colonized people across the world." The group has expressed pro-Palestinian messages on social media and has said it is fighting against "fascist colonizers." It has urged followers to bring Palestinian flags to protests.

Thankfully, they will likely celebrate the coming new year behind bars.

Pam Bondi, Kash Patel, and Dan Bongino have brought a new era to the DOJ and the FBI.
