President Trump commented on his Truth Social account at 5:44 p.m. ET that he has been briefed on the situation, adding that Brown officials changed their statement, which initially said the suspect had been captured. Earlier, the president had shared that news, although unfortunately, it turned out to be a false report.

The president expressed his condolences for "the victims and the families of the victims," and gave an update on the government response, writing that the "FBI is on the scene."

The alert that Brown students received was chilling:

"Remember: RUN, if you are in the affected location, evacuate safely if you can; HIDE, if evacuation is not possible, take cover; FIGHT, as a last resort, take action to protect yourself," school officials wrote in the alert. "Stay tuned for further safety information."

We pray for the students as the ongoing story unfolds, and we will bring you updates as new information comes in.
